When practicing #PublicSpeaking at home, start by looking straight ahead, then imagine an audience at least 45 degrees left & right of center.
Be loud - remember that you'll need to be heard by someone in the back of a room 5 or 6 times its size.

It’s important to remember that this dialogue is not with the audience as a group, but rather a one-on-one conversation with each person. You’re speaking individually to each person in the audience.

“People think actresses find public speaking easy, and it's not easy at all; we're used to hiding behind masks.”
– Jane Fonda, American actress

If you ask the audience a "survey" question, explain that you want them to raise their hands in response.
Say, “By a show of hands…” or “Raise your hand if…”
It also helps to demonstrate by raising your own hand as you ask the question.

4️⃣ Keep It Simple – Like a classic carol, your message should be clear and memorable.
5️⃣ Give Like It’s a Gift – Focus on what your audience will take away.

#PublicSpeaking is a skill that everyone will need at some point in their life, whether it’s to offer a toast at a friend’s wedding, to advocate for a new policy at a school board meeting, or to thank family & friends who attend a birthday celebration.
#PainlessPublicSpeaking
When practicing a speech, don't confuse “thinking about” or “outlining” w/practice.
The only way to practice a speech is to deliver it, using the same volume, enthusiasm, movement, & body language that you'll use in the actual delivery.
#PublicSpeaking#PainlessPublicSpeaking
In almost all #PublicSpeaking situations, you are more effective delivering your well-rehearsed presentation from bullet points written on notecards rather than from a script.

Want to become a better public speaker?
It's all about the small improvements.
Focus on improving just one thing at a time.
There is already a lot to think about, don’t add to your plate.
Make it easier by keeping it simple.
@Public_Speaker_ I would have thought the opposite- they make a speaker unique and worth listening to; even more so if the voice matches the style e.g. Arnie’s monotone combined with his robotic Terminator role.
A huge welcome to Brian and Priscilla for their first event, while a welcome back to Kelly for her second - the Club continues to grow!
If you want to give us a try, the next session is on Monday 25th November, 6:45 p.m. and for first timers it is FREE!
LAST NIGHT’S MEETING!
Session 5 - delivery style!
We read prepared speeches on unusual topics. No timer, no thought on what to say, all focus on delivery.
Memorable work from Kelly on her life coach called Bubbles the fish & Brian on adventures with his pet cat Whiskers!
