Mabati Technical Training Institute does training across different skills including plumbing, mechanics and garment manufacturing. They are now Auto Express’ training partner as the company scales.
The Mabati Rolling Mills factory line in Mariakani is one of the most impressive operations I’ve seen in Kenya, especially on the cleanliness, safety and quality of line managers side. They are partnering quite a bit with the Japanese on process improvement / standards.
Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) Chief Executive, Tobias Alando, visited Mabati Rolling Mills (@MRM_Mabati ), where he held discussions with the CEO, Mr. Albert Sigei, and toured the manufacturing facility. The visit sought to gain deeper insights into the operational challenges affecting the Metal and Allied Sector and explore policy interventions that can enhance the industry's competitiveness, growth and long-term sustainability.
Some of the areas of concern raised included:
▪️Standards and market surveillance: The continued presence of substandard and non-compliant products undermines compliant manufacturers, distorts competition and exposes consumers to quality risks. Stronger collaboration between government and industry is needed to enhance verification, testing, and enforcement across the market.
▪️VAT refund delays: Outstanding VAT refunds stifle manufacturers’ cash flow, working capital, and capacity to invest. KAM continues to advocate for clear refund timelines and a more automated, system-based process that improves predictability as well as an increase in budgetary allocation to cater for VAT refunds. A more efficient VAT refund framework would strengthen manufacturers’ liquidity, support business continuity and enhance the overall competitiveness of Kenya’s manufacturing sector.
▪️Unfair competition from imports: Significant volumes of imported roofings enter the market without meeting applicable standards, creating an uneven playing field for local manufacturers that invest in quality and compliance. Imported and locally manufactured products must be subjected to equivalent standards and enforcement requirements.
KAM will continue engaging relevant stakeholders to advance practical, evidence-based policy reforms that support local production and create a level-playing field for Kenyan manufacturers.

At the MRM Partners’ Conference 2026, we celebrated Dumuzas’ 25-year journey: a milestone that speaks to the power of consistency, trust, and shared purpose.
For 25 years, Dumuzas has stood alongside Kenyan families, protecting homes, inspiring progress, and shaping communities through trusted roofing solutions.
It was not only a lovely evening but also genuinely fun. Great conversations, stronger connections, and a clear reminder that partnerships are not just good for business; they are essential for growth, resilience, and long-term impact.
Congratulations on 25 years of excellence, longevity, and collaboration. Here’s to building even stronger partnerships for the future.
Congratulations to the MRM Foundation, too, for the impact you continue to have in the community.

Happy Boxing Day!
As we unbox gifts and enjoy the warmth of the season, let us remember those who have less and share the spirit of kindness that defines this time of year. Small acts of care can make a big difference.

As 2025 comes to a close, we sincerely thank you for your trust and support. From all of us at MRM, and especially our CEO @ASIGEI, we wish you a Merry Christmas filled with joy and a New Year full of peace and prosperity!
We could think of no better way to close the year than the Kenyan way. Our theme celebrated Utamaduni, reminding us that as a proudly Kenyan organization, building Kenya is at the heart of what we do, and our culture plays a vital role in that journey.
We danced, sang, celebrated our December babies, and reflected on a year of growth.
As we break for the holidays, we look forward to returning refreshed, energized, and ready to serve Kenya with even greater purpose in 2026
Happy Holidays!
