We welcome the Prime Minister’s intervention in Scotland today and would like to work with him and the Scottish Government to deliver integrated ticketing and bring rolling stock back into public ownership.
This is an important step in the creation of GBR, we welcome Sir John to the role and look forward to working with him as track and train are brought back together again, delivering a GBR that works for the public and not private profit

The Prime Minister's proposal to hold a rail summit presents a vital opportunity to discuss the future of our railway.
Our General Secretary Dave Calfe has written to @andyburnham to set out some of the key issues we want to raise on behalf of ASLEF members 👇
NEW: The Railways Bill must secure public ownership of rolling stock.
Last week, the government said it would consider public ownership of new trains. If it means what it says, it must turn this into law - the Railways Bill is the best ever opportunity. https://t.co/9eoCBaWXmG
Excellent to see this from the Mayor of London.
It's essential we invest in international rail links. The benefits for both the economy and the climate could be huge.
That should mean expanding international rail freight too.
Stratford is one of Europe’s great regeneration success stories. It’s ready for its next chapter - European rail links.
City Hall is working with the government to deliver new cross-Channel trains from East London. The benefits would be felt far beyond our city ⬇️
Violence on public transport is on the rise due to understaffing, poor services, lone working and inadequate infrastructure. The long-term effects of violence undermine public transport systems.
We need worker-centred change led by unions.

Railways belong under public control!
A huge win in Western Australia is the first step towards 5,500km of freight rail network being run for the public good, not private profit. End rail privatisation!

In 2025, a Network Rail chief engineer put it bluntly:
"For a sustainable asset, we need to renew 2.5% of our assets. We're projecting 0.75% – doing less renewals than we need to to be sustainable."
The true cost of cuts is drivers', our colleagues and our passengers' safety.
The ORR estimates that Network Rail could face £2.3 billion of additional pressures over a five-year period.
Meanwhile, leasing trains from private ROSCOs saw £2.9 billion funnelled out of the railway in profits and dividends in the last five years alone!
Our latest assessments show that Network Rail is exceeding its efficiency targets, but rising costs and reduced financial headroom are increasing pressure on renewals.

Spot on from @ASLEFunion 📣
“That’s why we say it’s time we owned our own trains – to get our money back on track, not seeing it leave the station to move offshore, and to get Britain moving on the right lines again.”
