We can't believe it's the last day of our 2026 Adventures in Math and Science Summer Camp! We had the best time with all our campers these past two weeks and already can't wait for next year. It's fun to learn when you're at AIMS!🚀🐉
🗣️ Let's talk about Artificial Intelligence!
ASMS senior Jiro Culbertson, sophomore Alton Raburn, and their mentor, Dr. Mitch Frye, delivered a presentation on literary research and artificial intelligence at the University of South Alabama’s Conference on Teaching and Learning. They spoke about their experiences incorporating large language models (LLMs), such as Google Gemini and ChatGPT, into traditional source-based research on the works of F. Scott Fitzgerald. They acknowledged the strengths of LLMs as academic conversation partners and feedback generators while also noting that the risk of AI hallucinations can reduce their effectiveness in finding and summarizing sources.
The students enjoyed sharing their work and participating in a lively conversation about the role of AI in higher education. Great job, Nerds! 🤓

⭐Alumni Spotlight⭐
Mason Bayles (Class of 2022) has made an incredible impact at the University of Alabama at Birmingham! Bayles graduated UAB this year as a triple major, award winning researcher, and future Ph.D. student at Princeton University, where he has been awarded the Princeton graduate school President’s Fellowship, an award offered to less than 10 percent of admitted students.
UAB highlighted his impressive resume and dedication to teaching chemistry in a recent article. "His passion for science took shape during his sophomore year of high school when a simple experiment using pencil lead and paper sparked a deeper interest in chemistry. This moment confirmed that his future belonged in the subject.” Bayles credits that moment to our very own Dr. Elisa Rambo’s class here at ASMS!

Practicing professionalism. 💼✨
Our students had the opportunity to hear from Sarah Bumgarner of Transworld Business Advisors who gave an engaging presentation called "You are the Brand: Work Ethic, Reputation and Opportunity." Students then put her lessons into action through mock interviews. Big thanks to Ms. Bumgarner for an awesome session!
🦸♂️ We had a SUPER fun junior class trip! First, we traveled to the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where we got a full tour, learned what they can offer our students, and even saw some ASMS alums.🐉 Then, we headed to Six Flags Over Georgia for a day of thrills and smiles! 😄
