Myth:
People can catch epilepsy from someone who is having a seizure.
Medical Fact:
Epilepsy is not contagious. It is a neurological condition caused by abnormal electrical activity in the brain. It cannot spread from person to person through touch, saliva, air, etc.
Myth.
You should put an object in someone’s mouth during a seizure.
Medical Fact.
Never put anything in their mouth. It is physically impossible to swallow your tongue. Forcing an object (like a spoon or wallet) into the mouth can break teeth or injure the jaw.
