One of my flatmates is an Electronics student. He is currently in 6th semester.
In 1st year, he tried many things like Python, web development, DSA.
But he was not consistent. He said he wanted to focus only on college subjects.
In reality, he just passed exams.
His CGPA stayed average (around 7.5).
In 2nd year, the same thing happened.
He planned to do web dev, hackathons, and DSA, but never completed anything.
Most of his time went into procrastination, sleeping and watching "south-indian" movies.
We friends motivated him many times.
He listened carefully and promised to start studying.
But nothing changed.
The same cycle continued in 5th semester.
Now he is in 6th semester.
Our placements will start from August.
At this point he does not have strong technical skills nor have a high CGPA.
So both on-campus and off-campus placements look difficult.
Now he says he wants to do an MBA because he was active in our college entrepreneurship club as a marketing lead, so he feels marketing suits him.
He believes that doing an MBA after engineering will fix his career.
I honestly don’t know what advice to give him.
Is MBA a good decision here or just a way to avoid facing the real problem?
Finally completed 100 problems on DSA on LeetCode 🥳
I wasn’t very consistent with DSA.
Even though I started in August last year, it took me almost 5 months to complete my first 100 questions.
Honestly, I love the concept of Data Structures and Algorithms, but in the beginning, I didn’t enjoy solving problems.
Sitting for hours to find an optimal solution felt too time consuming. I always thought I was more of a development guy than a DSA guy.
But I’ve realized that DSA actually makes you a better developer. It helps you write more efficient code, understand trade-offs, and design systems that scale instead of just "working somehow."
Now, I’m genuinely enjoying solving DSA questions.
It pushed me out of my comfort zone and forced me to think in new ways.
Hopefully, I’ll master DSA in the coming months. 🤞🏻
