A hospitalized patient was diagnosed with several new conditions.
He was being discharged with many meds, but was overwhelmed since he cannot read…
Our wonderful resident spent time teaching him & color coded everything using pictures..

These photos say it all. After being told she can’t all her life, Amy shouted “I can do anything” as she crossed the finish line of the Boston Half Marathon today! Our #SCD warriors CAN do anything. Thank you to our incredible athletic trainer, Jen Miramontes for being her guide.
@jmvyasmdphd@MGHMedicine@mghmedres Thank you, Jay, for your unparalleled leadership and warmth. You made us feel like we belonged & encouraged us to take the best care of our patients, ourselves and each other. We appreciate you!❤️
A wonderful night with some of our @MGHMedicine residents at @fenwaypark. It is so great to spend time with them outside of the hospital. So so proud of all of them! Thanks for @DarshaliVyas@SaraKCharMD
Most Latino and Black college students attend / start at community college in California
Dr. Michael Galvez + myself are both medical subspecialists + community college grads from the Bay Area, CA
Medical schools CAN consider community college as a strategy to diversify medicine
Medical schools + universities have a SOCIAL + ETHICAL duty to invest and admit / train surrounding community college grads - a vital talent pool of underserved / low income students
Our medical schools owe it to our communities

Black male physicians in 1940: 2.7%
Black male physicians in 2018: 2.6%
So this MD is more than just letters😌. Shout out to the many amazing black male doctors/friends that are changing the face of medicine.
Going from struggling with exams, to having a patient be overjoyed that I’m her doctor because we speak the same language is wild.
Don’t give up. Your people are waiting for you.

Oh you’re going to a teaching hospital in July? Well get ready…
for the most compassionate care from extremely empathetic interns along with their vigilant supervising attendings. Hope you like open ended questions and doctors listening to you bc you’re gonna drown in it.

After years of organizing and a week-long election, housestaff at Massachusetts General Brigham have voted for representation in the form of a union.
This is my dear friend, Nakita.
Nakita and I were medical school classmates and both interns in New York City. Nakita tragically took her own life on May 26.
She is such a beautiful soul. She was so fun to be around. She was intelligent, charismatic, and confident. (1/x)
Responsibility with no authority is the most demeaning thing…and it’s the story of healthcare.
Clinicians have responsibility to answer their patients’ questions…but no authority to book patients for more than 10-minute visit lengths. That’s the time squeeze set by admin/corporations running the clinic…
Patients have responsibility for their health…but no authority over the resources they need to better it — specialist visit? Need a referral. Medication? Need prior auth. Surgery? Out of network…
Clinicians have responsibility for patient satisfaction, but no authority to fix staffing shortages, long wait times, dirty bathrooms…again, third parties hold the power (and the budget) to fix those issues…
Healthcare works together as a team, but we’ve unfortunately allowed our authority to be stolen by third parties: insurance, corporations, private equity, etc…the misbalance between power and responsibility is where we are all left disenfranchised. No wonder burnout is so prevalent, for clinicians and patients both.
When I think about the hustle so many nontraditional and/or underserved students endure, it reminds me that we need to make education more affordable, make rent more affordable, and widen our safety nets. Getting in isn’t enough. We need to make sure all students are thriving.
