I'm pleased to amplify voices of NICU parents and staff who reflected on racial inequities & make recommendations to move forward together in the REJOICE study, phase 2!
To start, hope: “There’s radical optimism in that we’re in a different time and we’re not doing it alone”🌅
In John Trumbull's painting, five writers present to Congress a draft Declaration of Independence in 1776. @arlenparsa blotted out the faces of 34 enslavers who denied people "unalienable Rights," like "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." #WhatToTheEnslavedIsthe4thofJuly
Something that's commonly -- intentionally and unintentionally-- misunderstood: Reparations are not just for slavery, they are for all of the economic, educational and political subjugation visited upon the descendants of slavery. Black as a race is a political/economic fiction.
The assumption that racism is an individual character flaw and race is merely identity/cultural groups reflects the epistemology of racial ignorance--in the US and globally.
#Haiti was the first country in the world to permanently abolish slavery & the slave trade. Haitians dealt a decisive blow to the entire system of slavery. Our ancestors became a threat to the existing world order. Haitian history is world history. Happy Haitian Heritage Month!🇭🇹
So many smiles after “professional twister,” a inter-professional mixer to break down the silos. Help us continue to dismantle the walls at our next event at #PAS2023 “Breaking down silos in neonatal #healthequity : the novel NJC approach” - Monday 5/1, room 149AB
It's #BlackHistoryMonth, and someone emailed me about the https://t.co/koAJ0nLbox website, and why South Asian Americans owe a debt of gratitude to African American activism.
Here's the truth: without the Civil Rights movement, South Asian America as we know it might not exist.
Join us as we welcome Chief of Health Equity, Diversity and Inclusion for the UCLA Hospital and Clinic System Dr. Medell Briggs-Malonson for our DoM #BlackHistoryMonth Grand Rounds tomorrow morning! Zoom link available at https://t.co/DvoDLikAdE
.@KamalaHarris, the Vice President of the US, is the daughter of an Indian immigrant. Harris holds this second highest office exactly a century after the Supreme Court ruled that immigrants from India were ineligible for US citizenship. Because, they were not White. A thread 1/
