Here’s some incredible photos of today’s rescue along Rt 35 in Mason County. Crews used ropes to rescue the driver while his cab dangled over a bridge at Sixteen Mile Rd. The driver was stuck in there for five hours, but refused medical treatment.

A few moments ago, Specialist Sarah Beckstrom passed away from the injuries sustained during yesterday’s horrific shooting. This is not the result we hoped for, but it is the result we all feared.
Sarah served with courage, extraordinary resolve, and an unwavering sense of duty to her state and to her nation. She answered the call to serve, stepped forward willingly, and carried out her mission with the strength and character that define the very best of the West Virginia National Guard.
Today, we honor her bravery and her sacrifice as we mourn the loss of a young woman who gave everything she had in defense of others. We will forever hold her family, her friends, and her fellow Guardsmen in our prayers as they grieve what no family should ever have to bear.
We are now receiving conflicting reports about the condition of our two Guard members and will provide additional updates once we receive more complete information.
Our prayers are with these brave service members, their families, and the entire Guard community.
It is with great sorrow that we can confirm both members of the West Virginia National Guard who were shot earlier today in Washington, DC have passed away from their injuries. These brave West Virginians lost their lives in the service of their country. We are in ongoing contact with federal officials as the investigation continues.
Our entire state grieves with their families, their loved ones, and the Guard community. West Virginia will never forget their service or their sacrifice, and we will demand full accountability for this horrific act.
Denise and I are devastated by the news that two members of the West Virginia National Guard were shot earlier today in Washington, DC. According to reports on the ground, one did not survive the attack and the other was taken to a nearby hospital. We are in direct contact with our Guard and other officials, and are working to obtain the most accurate information as quickly as possible.
Our prayers are with these brave service members, their families, and the extraordinary men and women of our Guard who put themselves on the line every day. West Virginia stands united behind them. We will do everything in our power to support their families as they endure this unimaginable loss and will not rest until justice is served.
Good story from @ASaunders_WCHS:
The Department of Human Services has been under a court monitor for a year after a foster child living in a hotel room attempted suicide. DoHS revised its policies to reflect court recommendations and better supervision.

HAPPENING NOW: Julie Miller is in the process of entering into a plea agreement to a charge of death of a child by parent by child abuse for the 2024 death of her daughter, Kyneddi Miller, 14.
New from me: There are more than 13,000 homeless students in West Virginia, and statehouse efforts to help them stalled.
The state is also receiving less federal money to identify and provide services to homeless students.
