The Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit [NFIU] met with Nigeria’s sanctions Committee on Monday, 18th March 2024 and recommended certain individuals to be designated on the infamous watch list.
The first is Tukur Mamu.. The Nigerian authorities believe he participated in “logistic supply, aiding and abetting acts of terrorism as well as terrorism financing” “By receiving and delivering ransom payments over $200,000 to ISWAP terrorists for thhe release of the Abuja-Kaduna train attack hostages”
Mr Tukur, Publisher of Desert Herald Newspaper is currently embattled in a legal tussle with the Nigerian Government over terrorism financing allegations after he was arrested and detained by Interpol at the Cairo International Airport while awaiting a connecting flight to Saudi Arabia on 6th September 2022
He was repatriated back to Nigeria via Aminu Kano international airport Kano into the claws of the vigilant Nigerian Secret Police, State Security Service “DSS” who secured Mamu’s further detention at Federal High court, Abuja for the next 60 days to gather evidence.
DSS also obtained a duly signed search warrant for his residence and office at No. 4, Ali Ladan Street, Sabon Kawo GRA and No. 14, Mamona Road, Anguwan Sarki, Kaduna state where they recovered two packs of pump action cartridges; 16 ATM cards from both local and foreign banks; seven cheque books of different banks; six laptops; four tablets; 24 handsets and three international passports belonging to Mamu; one firearm license were recovered.
The Agency claimed that the defendant had used the cover of his profession as a journalist to aid both local and international terrorist groups.
It stated, “That the action of the defendant has orchestrated the untimely death of several security personnel in North-central and North-east parts of Nigeria and That the defendant has discreetly given several information to bandits and terrorists that escalated various acts of terrorism in Nigeria”
On 20th December, The Federal High Court, ordered that Mamu’s doctor treat him under the supervision of the DSS medical team.
His trial is still ongoing before the court
One of the architect behind the abduction of the recently freed 22 female students of Federal University Gusau. Damina joined the camp of the slain notorious Kachalla Ali Kawaje [Courtesy of Nigerian Air Force airstrikes on 11th December]
In November, Damina’s group kidnapped over 100 residents of Mutunji community in Dansadau emirate. He led the operation and attack on the community after they failed to pay levies he imposed on them and for reporting movement of his movements to security agents.
The infamous syndicate made headlines when it abducted eight Chinese expatriates in Niger State and killed one, while the other seven victims escaped from captivity
Damina known for his terror reign is one of the most dangerous and vicious Bandits leader terrorizing Dansadau in Zamfara, Niger and Kaduna state, his gang boasts of hundreds of fighters involved in cattle rustling, kidnappings and attacks on military formations
He was a protege of a pioneer bandit kingpin, the late Buharin Daji, notoriously known as “Buhari Janar” (both are jibes at the former president Muhammadu Buhari) who terrorized rural communities and villages. After his death, Damina forged alliances with other criminals, like Karami, Halilu Sububu, Zakwali and Nagala, to terrorise Nigerian communities, mostly Kwanar Dutse in the Dansadau emirate of Maru, Zamfara.
Thanks to the owls and eagles, Damina joins up to 20 bandit leaders this year who have experienced painful, sudden death this year. More will join him! It’s written
