There's an error on Korsgaard's website that makes her PhD diss unavailable for download. She knows about this. But until Chris gets around to fixing the error on her website, here's a link to a PDF of her diss "The Standpoint of Practical Reason" (1981) - https://t.co/LHcO0959bJ
"There is no reason to fear nihilism. What we should fear is mistaken belief in nihilism. Such a mistake could have disastrous consequences. By contrast, we lose nothing by mistakenly believing that things do matter" (Guy Kahane, 'If Nothing Matters' 2017).
@ConservYIMBY@TrueSlazac Not sure how "closest match" is determined, but for you and I to both get Rishi Sunak with such different results makes me question the accuracy of the method.
@CathyYoung63@davidhazony@Dussyme Order of operations is merely conventional and different people have been taught different conventions. These math problems get posted because it causes fighting and so engagement between people who were taught different conventions on what to do first: https://t.co/ews85FN47x
@eigenrobot Rawls thinks we are all equally deserving but not all equally entitled. We are entitled to what a fair system grants us. In a fair system inequalities help the worse off. This is just the oft used justification for capitalism: free markets & incentives make everyone better off.
@eigenrobot Is the system of laws & taxation one that everyone behind the veil of ignorance (as equals unaware of reasons to bias things towards themselves) would agree to? A system that lifts all boats and so improves the worst off via inequalities it allows? Then the system is fair.
I have a new article out this week in the journal SOPHIA and it's available open access -

@WarMonitor3 Meanwhile, the Navy has littoral combat ships built exactly for the Yemeni conflict years back and this Iran fight but they can't use for risk of loss.
@WarMonitor3 Absolutely crazy that the Air Force has spent 2+ decades trying to kill the A-10 just to buy another 2 or so F-35's. F-35's are great, so are A-10's. But A-10's have longer time on station and better ground support which the Air Force doesn't care about.
@AStrasser116 "corruption of the scientific enterprise" isn't the scientific enterprise neutral? Even if it's usually war? You think a peaceful society would invent science & have pushed it remotely as far as we have? Without war we'd still be back at Galileo even after ~600 years.
@gummibear737 You need a "just cause" to start it and clear "war aims" to end it. Not much to ask. All the complaints you are worried about are downstream of a lack of a starting just cause and an end war aim.
