Fun game night with friends last night, we played Shadows Over Camelot. Today I played Marvel United with my family. Heroes lost both times, but we had a blast!
My approach to learning games has changed over the years. I’m much less worried about winning/being competitive and much more interested in understanding and exploring the game, even when it leads to mistakes.
Games that added a map to deck building brought an interesting element to the genre. Trains, Clank!, and Tyrants of the Underdark are all approachable games and the decisions of where to go and when as well as the additional player interaction they provide are a welcome addition.
One of my favorites from our Mon Valley Gaming meetup: Eminent Domain with the Escalation Expansion. I backed the original Kickstarter and it’s one of my most played games.
Played Cheeky Monkey and Sellswords in the last few days. I have more of an appreciation now for games you can learn, teach, and get into the game quickly than I used to.
I am continuing to try to improve when I teach games. When explaining concepts for a game, using the components to play out an example on the table is a great way for players to see a concept and how it will play out during the game. That is something I need to do more.
An relatively unknown game that I’ve had a ton of fun with is Mage Tower: A Tower Defense Card Game. It’s unlike anything I’ve played, and in an industry that is so focused on presentation now, it’s refreshing to play something with more substance than flash.
Had two really fun games of Temporal Odyssey today. I love games that have a low barrier of entry rules wise and lots of interesting decisions. I’m looking forward to the upcoming sequel! @solis_studio
Learning a game for the first time or need a rules refresher? I find that setting the game up and taking a few dummy turns can help me understand or remember a game much better than just reading the rulebook.
@sedjtroll Eminent Domain is among my favorite and most played games. I have played the base game, expansions individually, and expansions combined. I am still exploring and learning especially with elements of the expansions, but I am pretty confident both playing and teaching the game.
