In northern Nigeria, thousands of women and girls have lived through the brutal realities of conflict, yet they are excluded from justice processes.
To address this gap, Invictus Africa trained a diverse group of state and non-state actors across Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe States on the African Union (@_AfricanUnion) Transitional Justice Policy (AUTJP). The AUTJP is a continental framework adopted to guide African states in addressing past human rights violations, especially those arising from conflict, repression, and political violence.
The training deepened stakeholders' understanding of the AUTJP's core standards and principles, with a strong emphasis on the need for women to be meaningfully represented and actively participate in transitional justice mechanisms.
Non-state actors were encouraged to sustain conversations around transitional justice, create community-level forums, strengthen documentation and reporting on transitional justice processes, and create avenues for healing, reconciliation, and justice.
State actors were engaged on their responsibilities to remove political bottlenecks, enact inclusive legislation, fund transitional justice processes, and ensure that survivors are involved in the design, planning, coordination, and implementation of these processes.
This activity was implemented with support from the European Union (@EUinNigeria) through the ATJLF-administered Fund (@ATJLF_).
