Canadian former soccer player Kaylyn Kyle blasted FC Cincinnati’s Teenage Hadebe, who swapped jerseys with Lionel Messi after a 4-0 thrashing.
“This is the biggest frustration for me. That team looked like they rolled in and were starstruck by Lionel Messi,” she said via Apple TV.
“I understand Lionel Messi is the greatest player of all time. He’s won everything you can win.”
“Hadebe then goes over to him. You just lose 4-0, and you ask for his jersey? For me, you should be embarrassed.”
“You should be embarrassed in front of your home crowd that shows up year in and year out, week in and week out.”
“You just got a 4-0 thrashing in a conference semifinal and you’re asking to trade jerseys?”
“Like I understand it, I get it. He’s the greatest of all time and you want to hang his jersey in your trophy room. But do it behind the scenes, don’t do it when you just got bullied off the pitch.”
“It’s embarrassing for FC Cincinnati. And it’s embarrassing for the players.”
Former USMNT striker Eric Wynalda calls out the American soccer culture 🗣️
“In 1994, we didn’t even have a professional league. We’ve had a professional league for the last 30 years,” he said.
“We’re still learning how to do it, but still doing things in the complete polar opposite of the way the footballing world works.”
“We don’t have the right calendar, we don’t have promotion and relegation, we don’t have a pathway for players.”
“We also have a massive country, and decided there’s only going to be 32 professional teams at the top level, and you’re not allowed in.”
“We’re gonna create a bubble and complain that these kids are having a hard time becoming professionals.”
“If you want to run a club in this country, get yourself a travel agency. That’s where the money is. Do some tournaments and then utilize the travel agency and then get a kickback.”
“That’s how you make money in America. It’s not trying to figure out what the methodology or the philosophy or the American way should be. That has nothing to do with it.”
“We just have a bunch of people showing up, throwing their bags on the sidelines, buying those chairs, drinking that Starbucks, watching the game, complaining in the car ride home, and hitting the reset button on Monday.”
