It was great to see Lapwing (Vanellus vanellus) during our Residential Field Course on Inis Mór last week. We saw many adults and chicks. A red-list species (of high conservation concern) in Ireland.

Butterfly highlights from our field course on Inis Mor this week. Wall (Lasiommata megera), Small Blue (Cupido minimus) and Dingy Skipper (Erynnis tages). The Wall and Small Blue are classified as Endangered, and the Dingy Skipper as Near Threatened on the Irish Red List.

We've @BioDataCentre just had our earliest ever sighting of the very rare Great Yellow Bumblebee. A queen was spotted in Mayo on the 27th March. Previously the earliest recorded date was the 1st April in 1923! Hopefully it bodes well for a good year for bumblebees
