In Motion Whispering Vessel by Adi Toch has been acquired for Birmingham’s collection. When rotated it makes a sound from the loose pieces of quartz inside it. It was donated to the museum by the @ContempArtSoc through their Omega Fund.

Excited about this new piece of metalwork acquired by @BM_AG. It inspired me to look at the website of the artist Adi Toch - if you like it, you should do the same!

Check out this article I wrote for Goldsmiths Review, P17 on Adi Toch’s Place to Place commission for the Gilbert Collection at the V&A
.@abostrom2 finished the event with a quote from Edmund de Waal whose incredibly thoughtful piece about the return of the ewer & @AT_Metalsmith’s work I have included below:
Spent a splendid afternoon at @GoldsmithsCo Fair at the magnificent Goldsmiths’ Hall. There is so much creativity & mastery to see here
- plus a great discussion with @AT_Metalsmith and @abostrom2 about Adi’s practice and response to restitution.
At Goldsmith’s Fair, @AT_Metalsmith will be in conversation with the V&A’s Director of Collections, @abostrom2, whose visit to Adi’s studio set in motion a remarkable chain of events that led to the creation of an incredibly thoughtful and beautiful artwork.
A year ago, the Gilbert Trust, whose collection is on display at the @V_and_A, restituted to Turkey an ancient gold ewer -
and commissioned @AT_Metalsmith to create an artwork to keep the object and its story present in the Gilbert galleries in London.

'Restitution is back on the agenda after the director of the Victoria and Albert Museum (@V_and_A) in London, @TristramHuntVA, says that legislation dating from 1983 preventing UK national museums from disposing of works should be re-evaluated.'
