Hello, you can call me Transportation of the Day, or ToD if you'd like.
I am a Civil Engineering Major who enjoys taking public transit.
I will schedule a post at 12:00 UTC highlighting a transportation line or network (Train, Bus, Tram, etc.) each day.
Some of the most exciting news this week — we're looking at a potential cross-town subway connection North of Central Park.
We've been dreaming of this since 2017!!
All 3 lines are currently suspended for inspection after a car from Ascensor da Glória derailed and collided into a building killing 16 and injuring 23 on September 3rd, 2025. The lines are scheduled to reopen in 2029.
The Transportation of the Day are: The Lisbon Funiculars, Ascensor da Glória, do Lavra and da Bica operated by Carris.
With 2 terminus stations on each line in Lisbon Portugal, the lines have a total length of 708 meters (2,323 feet) opening in 1885, 1884, and 1892 respectively.
The lines are named after the street one the stations are on.
Estimated daily ridership is around 9,500 people while it was open. It's operating hours were from 7 am to 9 pm. There are a total of 6 electric funicular cars, 2 in each line.
Tomorrow’s TotD is going to be more somber. While public transit has the ability to positively affect the lives of many, things will go wrong. It is the job of the civil engineer and the operators to maintain the infrastructure and to make sure that failures are safe.
The MTA is proposing a new 125 Street Subway, which would extend west from the future 125 St/Lexington Av Q station. The project would connect existing subway lines—including the Second Avenue Subway—and bus routes along the corridor.
Learn more about this project at a public scoping meeting; we're hosting two virtual sessions on October 22, and one in-person session on October 27. Register for a session and get all the details: https://t.co/bjRcaEpZ0D
Personal story about the 1: When I was a freshman in college, I had used it to go to the Lincoln Center to watch The Nutcracker with a date. I remember the play more than the person I was with now😭.
Today's Transportation of the Day is: The 1 Train operated by the IRT Division of the NYC Subway!
Servicing 38 Stations along its 23.7 km (14.7 mi) route from Van Cortlandt Park–242nd Street station in The Bronx, to South Ferry station in Manhattan, NYC.
