THIS. In May when the Say Their Name hashtag was trending someone did a thread for Brazil. It was people who had died at the hands of the police. The majority were children 16 and under. The youngest was 6 or 7 if I remember rightly. Whats happening in Brazil is heartbreaking.

I hate the co-option of the word “woke” and how it’s used pejoratively by non-Black people whilst completely changing its meaning. Even if or when we used it in a jokey way or as an insult, it still has very specific meaning within our community, the place where it started.
