Pretty excited about this: my first professional publication: "Designing Primary Source Curricula for the K-12 Classroom"! I wrote about the design philosophy we used to create our first publication to support K-12 teachers teaching with primary sources: https://t.co/wf9FjMKxew
I've been on the board of JVP for a decade and half and have never been more proud to be part of this remarkable and fast-growing movement organization. Join us! #CeasefireNOW
New! Explore our new curriculum guide and teach with the Library's primary sources! To Make Public Our Joy: Black New Yorkers Commemorating Emancipation, 1808–1865 is designed to help teachers support students in grades 7–12. Download the complete guide: https://t.co/I7zbL5S2Gy
Today's the day! "To Make Public Our Joy: How Black New Yorkers Commemorated Emancipation, 1808–1865" is live @NYPLEducators! It was inspired by the addition of Juneteenth as a Federal holiday: How do we decide which holidays to celebrate, when, and how? https://t.co/gTtD4LsYzj
We've translated the primary sources into Arabic, Chinese, and Spanish, and the PDF is fully accessible. Print copies are available by attending a workshop (Election Day at the @SchomburgCenter) We hope it inspires you to teach with primary sources!
Very proud of this work! @EmilyMBrooksPhD, Curriculum Writer, Lisa Gomez, Curriculum Writer, with scholar reviewers @prithikanaka @lesliemalex deserve all the flowers! Coming soon - website will be live next week for back to school :)
It was also an unfunded passion project - I think the total cost to produce this was under $500 - we paid for the rights reproduction and historian review. I designed it and all of the handouts in Microsoft Publisher! 😂
This is so exciting to see! I wrote this curriculum after designing and leading ~four years of school field trip programs to the In Pursuit of Freedom exhibition at @brooklynhistory
