So, what is the difference between tuning and voicing? Hmmmm......

[Adam @AVDPiano]

The process of modifying the tone is called "Voicing."

[Adam @AVDPiano]

A piano tech can modify the tone to better suit your needs and can restore tone that has faltered due to age.

[Adam @AVDPiano]

Even though the design of the piano creates the basic "character" of your piano's tone, it can be modified.

Piano tones have been described as "glassy," "warm," "having a full singing tone," or "thin" to name a few.

Every piano is different even though they are all pianos. The sound/tone quality of each instrument is unique.

Enough about humidity, how about tone/voicing. Anyone know anything about tone?

[Adam @AVDPiano]

The tuning will still vary but by keeping the piano's environment mostly stable we minimize the variation.

[Adam @AVDPiano]

We want to minimize the changes as much as possible to keep everything else from drifting and losing its tuning.

A "humidity control system" is a device that is a humidifier & dehumidifier all rolled into one. Installed out of sight in/under the piano.

[Adam @AVDPiano]

There is actually a device that can help maintain the humidity level at or near ideal for a piano within the piano's cabinet/structure....

[Adam @AVDPiano]

By having a hygrometer near your piano you can help to maintain the proper moisture level in the air. But is there an easier way?

[Adam @AVDPiano]

A hygrometer measures moisture content in the air via various means (electronic/mechanical) and displays a number to give you the percentage
