It was a great finish for our dynamic duo of Sophia Maier and Elise Weisenburger at the state meet! Sophia’s time of 2:17.28 was our fastest in the 800 since … Sarah (Chapman) Sutton, who holds our school record and now coaches Sophia!
Good luck to all of our athletes competing today and to the coaches who have put in so much work throughout the season. Go get it! @AVHSAthletics@AVHSTF
It’s been a monumental season for us, and last night, we gathered to celebrate it with the largest group of state qualifiers we’ve had since 2009.
This morning, we compete at the Class AAA state meet at STMA; the action kicks off at 9 a.m.
Let’s go Eagles! @AVHSAthletics
With Sophia Maier and Elise Weisenburger going 1-2 in the girls’ 800 in the Section 3AAA meet, @AVHSAthletics became one of four schools in Class AAA to sweep the state meet qualifying spots in a distance event, joining Wayzata’s and Maple Grove’s girls and Blaine’s boys.
Thirteen qualifiers for the state meet, and a second-place section trophy for the girls for the first time in at least 15 years. What a day for the Eagles at the section finals!
Two Eagles in the top four in the 800! Another great day for our dynamic duo: Sophia Maier was 2nd in the conference final, while Elise Weisenburger closed her SSC career with a 4th-place finish (a year after placing 7th). Proud of these two! @AVHSAthletics
Congrats to sophomore Abdi Mohamud, who just ran the fastest @AVHSAthletics 1600 since Nick and Mike Hutton in 2008! Abdi’s time of 4:33.08 got him on his first South Suburban Conference podium with an 8th-place finish.
Congrats to Sophia Maier and Elise Weisenburger, who became the first pair in AVHS history to make a South Suburban Conference final in the girls’ 800! @AVHSAthletics
As our distance runners get ready for Saturday morning practice, a shoutout to our dynamic duo of senior Elise Weisenburger and freshman Sophia Maier, who on Thursday became the fastest pair of @AVHSAthletics girls’ 800m runners since Katy Soliday and Caitlin Ries in 2006!
Our Hamline Elite Meet crew, led by Leah Rudashevsky’s sixth-place finish in the pole vault.
We’re back at it tomorrow at Lakeville North for the Panther Mega Meet!

We love our annual trip to Irondale for the Knights Under the Lights meet! Our boys were 3rd, with four scorers in the 100, and our girls were 4th, as Kya Myers won the 200, Leah Rudashevsky and Kya ran fast in the 100 and Sophia Maier ran our best 3200 since Olivia Anger in 2016
Great day for both our teams at the Minnesota State Relays in Mankato today! The girls finished 2nd overall (up from 6th in ‘25), with stellar multi-event showings from Elise Weisenburger and Leah Rudashevsky, and the boys were 9th, with 3rd-place finishes from our 4x8 and 4x4.
Post-sections picture with five of our 10 state boys qualifiers. We’ll have Matthew Urgiles Suarez (3200m) and D’Vante McElroy (triple jump), as well as our 4x100m and 4x200m relays, competing at the state meet on June 10 and 12 at St. Michael-Albertville.
With the fastest 3200 by an AVHS runner in the 21st century, Matthew Urgiles Suarez is headed to his 2nd state track meet! He used a 1:08 final lap to pull away from the pack and claim 2nd in the Section 3AAA meet. He’s dropped 38 seconds from his 3200 time in the past week.
