Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) provides students with essential skills that help prepare them for the demands of higher education. Mr. Lodakk Brown, Senior Operations Training Specialist at Metra, and Thompson parent, spoke with students about public speaking.
Mariana took the lead today for Fun Friday. She taught our AVID8 class a traditional Colombian hand-slapping game called “Palo.” Needless to say, we had a blast!
AVID8 had their first practice tutorial today about zombies, ghosts, and wild animals! Excellent job to our brave souls who chose to present first!! @drewmud@AVIDMWStates
AVID8 Fun Friday turned into a lesson about having a strong foundation to build on. Love this AVID family & the foundations we have built together!! @drewmud@AVIDMWStates
Our AVID8 students presented to our incoming AVID students about the class expectations and what to look forward to next year. It was neat to see our AVID8 students show off their leadership skills! @drewmud@AVIDMWStates@thompson308
Our AVID seniors & previous grads of Thompson collaborated with our current AVID8 students for some professional development! Love how they worked together to come up with three different presentations for our Tiger Staff! @thompson308@drewmud@MarcusLLewisEd1 @Karen_OC_
AVID8 Fun Friday today consisted of some major engineering skills. Kids were making chairs out of 6 pieces of paper and some masking tape. The goal was for the chair to hold at least 4 phones or calculators. Some of the chairs held 40 books! @AVIDMWStates@drewmud@thompson308
When you try something new and have the AVID8 kids teach our family a new game for Fun Friday, you learn who your competitive kids are. Who knew Spoons could create this many laughs and squeals? #funfriday@drewmud@AVIDMWStates@thompson308
AVID8 learning more about our personalities while collaborating with our classmates by creating one-pagers to present to our class @AVIDMWStates@drewmud@thompson308
