Every first-round pick Colorado made from 2015 through 2023 has now been traded away. As of today, the only first-rounders from the Joe Sakic/Chris MacFarland era still with the Avalanche organization are Gabriel Landeskog, Nathan MacKinnon, and Cale Makar.

•Smits to the Rangers is intriguing. He’s a higher-upside European forward, but there were some consistency questions.
•Carels to Calgary is a solid value if they want a mobile defenseman.
•Björck to Winnipeg is a very Jets pick, a smart, two-way player with upside.

Daxon Rudolph at No. 4 to Buffalo. Most public rankings had him a little lower, so that’s an aggressive pick by the Sabres if they believe he’s a true top-pair defenseman.

My gut says this isn’t the end of the offseason. If Colorado truly has about $10.1million to work with and only 18 of 23 roster spots filled (per CapWages), they have enough room to:

Add another legitimate top-six forward or top-four defenseman.
Sign a couple of depth pieces.
