A special opportunity at #ISTH2025 to celebrate the power of scientific lineage - introducing Dan McViker to his “scientific grandchildren” in platelet research. Science is as much about innovation as it is about connection — across generations, disciplines, and borders.
Still in Kraków, presenting at the GENOMICA Student Conference of Genetics. A vibrant community of undergraduate & graduate researchers. I was truly impressed by quality of their work, especially the posters—hearing students explain their work was energizing.
Today in Kraków, I shared a proposed mechanism of TLT-1 function linking in vitro findings with in vivo data at Instytut Farmakologii im. Jerzego Maja, Polish Academy of Science. Excited about the potential for collaborations ahead.

Thankful for the opportunity to present at the at #HTRS2025 this week on how TLT-1 nucleates clot formation in the presence of low levels of #platelet agonist. This mechanism could open new avenues for therapeutic strategies in coagulation disorders.
Shade Onunkun, Nana Boateng & Dr. Lauver from MSU Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology joined Dr. Avery’s graduate seminar at @oaklandu to present their latest research findings. Great presentations, sparking insightful discussions and fostering collaboration!
The OU @oaklandu University Career & Life Design Center & Biojourneys initiative teamed up with Endo Pharmaceuticals to help students explore their personalized career pathways! Glad to be part of this collaboration that empowers students to discover their unique strengths.
I recently had the opportunity to speak at the @oaklandu Undergraduate Research Society, sharing insights and experiences with students and researchers. It was an honor to contribute to the discussions and engage with emerging scholars.
Congratulations to Madison Luxmore and Prisha Mehta, undergraduate students at #AVWashingtonLab, for outstanding poster presentations at the Midwest Platelet Conference in KY! Always inspiring to see young researchers presenting complex concepts and engaging discussions.
Exciting News! Welcoming Dr. @SravyaNimmala to our lab! 🌟 A physician with hands-on clinical experience, she’s now pursuing a Ph.D. in medical research to address critical gaps in healthcare.
Connect with her to discuss #Hematology#Research
An incredible milestone! Huge congratulations @SiobhanBranfie1 Ph.D. for completing her academic journey at @oaklandu Watching her pour her heart into this journey was inspiring. She’s lifted the laboratory to new heights. Hope to remain part of this incredible journey.

Recently a colleague and I presented an action plan for inclusive teaching, marking the culmination of an incredibly valuable learning journey at @CETLatOU. Inclusive teaching is a commitment to ensuring that every student feels valued, respected & empowered to succeed.
Our new publication @of_therapeutic TLT-1 plays a pivotal role by binding fibrinogen. Our assay identified 80 potent inhibitors to significantly reduce TLT-1 binding (80%) Promising avenue to combat thrombosis associated with cardiovascular disease. https://t.co/d4j1Dl0sNv
Implications of this study: platelets may prevent the exacerbation of ferroptosis-associated diseases dependent on CLEC-2;
platelets bind different types of iron substances ➡️platelets may play a significant role in the regulation of pathophysiological iron homeostasis.
Washington Lab spotlight: Yashieta immerses herself in the world of hematology, where she develops skills in cryosectioning, tissue analysis, and genotyping. Stay tuned as Yashieta continues to make strides in her research journey! 🧬💡

Inspiring career development discussion with young scientists of the Biomedical Research for University Students in Health Sciences Summer Research Prgm @michiganstateu!🌟It was energizing to engage with such articulate UG & veterinary students. They will do great things!
Excited to announce our latest from #AVWashingtonLab a new protocol for murine whole blood aggregometry as an alternative to traditional light transmission aggregometry https://t.co/fYDcSyy9O5 @SiobhanBranfie1@Curr_Protocols@WileyGlobal
Actin filaments reside within human platelet microtubules ➡️ stress placed upon the microtubule network during motor-driven microtubule looping & sliding may facilitate the incorporation of actin into microtubules.
Our latest paper on actin within platelet microtubules led by @ChisatoTsuji is now in print. https://t.co/3fwNOoo9Aa

New potential therapy for breast cancer involving #platelets from @BloodJournal. “Targeting this irregular multicellular interplay may represent a novel immunotherapeutic strategy for TNBC without the adverse effects of systemic IC inhibition”
BDUC (bleeding disorder of unknown cause ) patients show reduced platelet adhesion/ thrombus formation.➡️ To diagnose BDUC, platelet light transmission aggregometry should be performed as a minimum assessment. Platelet transfusions can be a potential treatment option.
