The case regarding the TamilNadu govt's policy of granting OBC reservation to individuals who have converted to Islam was heard in the Supreme Court today.

The Supreme Court has refused to stay the Madras High Court's verdict.

This means that individuals who have converted to Islam will not receive reservation under the BC (Backward Classes) quota!

It is worth noting that the Tamil Nadu government has approached the Supreme Court, arguing that those who have converted to Islam should be eligible for OBC reservation!

Earlier, the Madras High Court had ruled against the Tamil Nadu govt's decision, stating that Muslim converts could not be granted BC reservation. The Tamil Nadu government has now moved the Supreme Court to challenge that very ruling!

Youth For Equality (YFE) is fighting this case against Tamilnadu govt in Supreme Court.

SC list had 607 castes, today it has ~1200
ST list had 241 tribes, today it has 744

So where these castes are coming from?

If even after 70+ yrs, not a single caste has been uplifted via reservation, that itself shows "Reservation is a failed policy".

Few things illustrate the trajectory of the H intellectual discourse preceding 2014, contrasted with recent years as the reactions to the overall talk this clip is from.

What @jsaideepak garu covers here is an absolutely core issue - He highlighted the dangers of both proselytizing monotheisms and the SJW in equal measure in his speech.

It was a throwback to H discourse preceding 2014 when H intellectuals fearlessly and assiduously debunked the intellectual positions of Liberal left from Secularism to agitational feminism to majoritarianism.

Those interventions provided the intellectual thrust to the political genius and we had a virtuous loop which pushed everything forward.

In the last few years, we traded that symphony for conformance demands esp on SJW and got into a blackmail dynamic. To an extent understandable cause the loss aversion is compounded hugely.

We need to go back to real intellectual work to examine all system loops and not hope that just one vector will see us through or is enough to unite.

Bankipur is a seat with 45% General category population & BJP had won it 8 times even during Lalu Prasad period & in 2015 wave against them.

Now they have lost it.

It shows a strong anger of GCs against against them due to series of decisions:
-Caste census
-UGC
-Over 70% reservation in MP, Maharashtra etc
-Draconian SC-ST act
-OBC quota in All India medical seats
-Excluding GCs from all welfare schemes
-Excessive appeasement of SC/ST/OBCs & no policies to remove Hindu discrimination.

Unless they do serious introspection, they will lose General Category, OBC, youth & educated people's support.

& The 1st reform can start with exclusion of muslims & christians from OBC list, & revive Hindutva (which they promised when they came in power).

When Constitution was being framed, Dalit leaders gave proposal to the Minority & Fundamental Rights Sub-Committee (of the Constituent Assembly), that safeguards provided via reservation should be effective for 30 years.

But no one will tell you this.

If Mumbai needs to solve the garbage problem, we need surveillance and punishment for dumping garbage. Even in "good", "upper middle class" areas, we have overflowing bins. Unless these serial offenders are punished severely, nothing will change. I feel bad for the BMC safai sathis who clean twice a week - yet to see the garbage piling up the very next day!
