In @HouseofCommons today I tried to goad my successor minister Falconer (who I like) into conceding the trade deal he was boasting was made possible by Brexit freedoms. @HFalconerMP just couldn’t bring himself to 😳
Today Starmer is “hailing” a huge deal between Britain and the Gulf states worth £3.7bn.
This was made possible by Brexit freedoms (we can now negotiate our own trade deals).
But Starmer isn’t “hailing” that.
Because his party plans to reverse Brexit.

After 18 months of “standing up to Putin” the Labour govt quietly issued a licence allowing imports of Russian oil refined in third countries.
Yesterday Labour MPs voted AGAINST UK oil and gas licences.
We are now importing from Russia instead of drilling in the North Sea.
Insane.
Wes Streeting resigns, and effectively invites a timetable that would allow Andy Burnham to stand too. Says the contest needs to be about "ideas" and "broad".
To be fair, the British Steel bit was the only part that wasn’t routine adenoidal drivel.
To think this speech was billed as gathering note to The Great Leap Forward😬
Starmer cheered by Labour staffers when announcing nationalisation of British Steel. What he didn’t mention was that its been under the government’s control since April 2025, since when:
Taxpayers ponied up almost £400 million in the nine months to January 2026 (9 months).
The ongoing cost is around £1.3 million per day.
State subsidy to reach ~£615 million by June 2026 — and exceed £1.5 billion by 2028 if the current subsidy rate continues.
I know everyone is poring over election results, but let’s not forget… Today is VE Day.
It’s still living memory and being able to have elections is one of the freedoms fought for.
That freedom was bought by men and women who served our country.
Even now our veterans need defending.
The battles are different…like stopping brave veterans being dragged through the courts for vexatious claims in their old age.
Conservatives continue to fight. Just yesterday, the Supreme Court reinstated immunities after my Shadow Attorney General, Lord Wolfson stepped in, acted pro bono for veterans, and won.
We’re the only party doing the work.
On VE Day, we remember their sacrifice.
But remembrance is not enough. We should also honour our veterans by looking after them and defending them in Parliament, in the courts just as they defended us.
It was excellent to hear have @AWMurrison as our speaker at the Glastonbury and Somerton Conservative Association this morning.
He had some excellent insights borne of his years of experience as an MP and former Minister, he has never known the parliamentary party to be so united as they are now and is really positive about the way our party is rebuilding following our historic defeat in 2024.
Our many thanks to him for giving us so much of his time this morning. 😃
Let us be clear: Britannia Royal Naval College remains the home of Officer training.
There are no plans to sell BRNC and its central role in developing naval leaders continues.
The immovable high standards to pass out of BRNC have not altered.
British for as long as Falkland Islanders want. Needs saying only because Sir Kier’s mission to surrender Chagos has got the Argentinians going again🇬🇧
Lord Hermer - Sir Kier’s chum-in-chief - continues his left-liberal vendetta against our soldiers and veterans. No wonder Special Forces can’t recruit and retain. Big national security headache.
Yet another misjudged appointment made in Downing Street. https://t.co/5lhzXpBuVx
Positive meeting with Fire Minister Samantha Dixon just now at Home Office. Hopeful of a way ahead that’ll prevent closure of fire stations in Wilts and Dorset including Mere.
This lawfare against soldiers and veterans enabled by a human rights lawyer Prime Minister should worry all of us concerned about national security.
Our allies are far more robust in defence of those sent to do difficult work most would shrink from. https://t.co/yEpEyIMMZ7
⚓️The Princess Royal represented His Majesty and welcomed newly qualified officers to the Royal Navy at Dartmouth’s Passing Out Parade.
The ceremony marked the commissioning of 155 junior officers after their 29 weeks of training.
Her Royal Highness has held the rank of Admiral in the Royal Navy since 2012 and is the patron of several naval charities including The Naval Children’s Charity and The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity.
Pleased to support @hospiceuk in @HouseofCommons today. Letter heading to @hmtreasury about hospice funding to make up for recent NI hikes. Pictured here with Chief Exec of our local Julia’s House Hospice Martin Edwards.
Rejoice! Massive win for common sense and @KemiBadenoch.
A rare ‘thank you’ US for saving @10DowningStreet from its own stupidity.
Sir Kier needs to answer for the costs and making UK a complete laughing stock. Time to say goodbye? https://t.co/YyRPcXSVYM
What’s more ‘homegrown’ than North Sea oil and gas?
My constituents are colder and poorer thanks to @Ed_Miliband net zero vanity project. It’s not even green - imported LNG replacing North Sea gas he’s turned off.
Energy bills are falling today as a result of action we have taken on the cost of living.
The route to energy security and lower bills for good is through clean, homegrown power that we control.
My latest for the @DailyMirror👇

Germany is celebrating the late Queen!
A special stamp marks what would have been Queen Elizabeth II’s 100th birthday on 21 April. It honours her legacy and work towards reconciliation between the UK and Germany.
Stuttering, hesitating, clearly being passed notes by his SPAD, this is a humiliating exchange.
He is supposed to be the Defence Secretary, not the Defensive Secretary.
He is supposed to present strength, not weakness.
