AWRA is a pan-African organization committed to creating sustainable change for women and girls in the continent and the diaspora. #ReclaimTheNarrative
➡️ No woman or girl should have to live under the threat of Female Genital Mutilation.
For us, as survivors, and women and girls – everyday is #ZeroTolerance day.
We must center survivor-based solutions and healing practices to #EndFGM. @FondationDiaka
Language is never neutral, it shapes power, perception & possibility. Dr Leyla Hussein reminded us that words can reinforce harm or drive resistance & healing. This echoes Women Deliver 2026 Shift language → shift power → move closer to justice. Watch: https://t.co/W26zXtYhdS
In this powerful conversation, Valerie Loloju takes us inside the Sister-to-Sister Initiative a movement built on solidarity, courage, and the unwavering commitment to end all forms of Gender Based Violence.

Violence against girls is not a thought experiment.
We must hold two truths: zero tolerance for FGM, and zero tolerance for racism in the name of protection. Justice must be universal.

Born from a simple truth shared by @CDomtila, activism can be isolating and we need community.
From that truth emerged a collective; rooted in shared knowledge, grounded in what works, and committed to holding one another. A movement of growth, solidarity & collective power.
We joined @UKinKenya , The Girl Generation–ALM & @FGMresearch to mark #HumanRightsDay, highlighting why FGM prevention in the health sector is key to gender equality.
Survivor stories reminded us: health workers must understand FGM to support, protect & prevent harm.
As we mark #HumanRightsDay and close the #16DaysOfActivism, we honour the women, girls, and communities who continue to resist and reimagine a world free from violence. Women’s rights are human rights.
Human rights aren’t seasonal; they’re lived daily.

Our Executive Director, a proud FGM survivor and advocate, is representing us at the Sister-to-Sister Convening by @AWRA_org , over the next four days. This gathering brings together powerful women leaders to share their activism journeys and strengthen solidarity.
We honour and celebrate survivor leadership at the heart of the movement to #EndFGM.
This week, our team joined @AWRA_org + @FirebirdFoundation to co-facilitate healing and well-being sessions during the Sister-to-Sister Convening; a powerful space where 20 young grassroots leaders are transforming shared pain into collective power.
Here’s to feminist care, rest, and leadership that sustains movements.

SISTER TO SISTER.
African women gather to create a sacred space of courage, care, and collective power. They share stories, heal, and reimagine a future free from FGM. When women lead, communities transform. Together, we rise, build, and shape the Africa we want. @AWRA_org
Youths at the grassroots are not just the future they are the force reshaping today.
