But also, people didn’t have experience of citizen deliberation here. That is slowly changing. A bunch of people are suggesting this now, including #XR

I know Canberra has volunteer units. I’m guessing other cities too. I think volunteers are trained for bushfires, not city fires like buildings. Cities are less vulnerable to bushfires, of course. I’ve been wondering how the current crisis will affect rural depopulation.

@LucyJParry A volunteer fire service always worked well, Lucy, for #AustraliaFires -which used to be sporadic, localised, seasonal fires in an enormous, sparsely-populated country. It used to make sense. Then along came the climate crisis.
