I'm shaken to hear of the shocking and untimely passing of Mark Smythe, a prominent figure in the Los Angeles film scoring community, and a talented composer in his own right.
Thanks for being there for so many composers, Mark. We miss you.
@ridgetop21 Thank you!
Re: the trailer, not really. Technically, the quieter stuff in the first few seconds is from the score but most of it is licensed trailer music
I largely agree, esp with the #3. Every composer gives everything they can to every project and their most 'beloved' scores inevitably are the for the games that luckily reached the widest audience. This is equally true in film/TV.
No issue with this fact; it's simply how it is!
The discussion around video games music in a nutshell:
- A hit game = a composer exist
- History of VGM = bleeps and bloops
- Best OST ever = name the games you like the most
I understand the appeal but I don't think it helps in giving players a better experience.

New soundtrack!
I wrote crazy silly wizard music with @awintory for @thespellbrigade and it’s out now!
Classic rock, froggy synths, medieval bassoonery, prog jazz, and more all come together somehow in one zany soundtrack.

We're so thrilled, and honestly still quite overwhelmed, to announce that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has officially reached 8 MILLION copies sold!
Thank you so so much to every single person who has played, created art, shared, streamed, discussed, and supported this game!! 🤍🌹
A huge thanks to Austin Wintory @awintory for composing the gorgeous soundtrack for Sword of the Sea. The emotions that I felt with each track resonated with me. In terms of quality and impact, it's up there with the Journey soundtrack. You've outdone yourself with this one.
