Yes, I can be a homeowner and be poor. It costs less monthly (with low-income mortgage grant money) to own a 1BR in Boston than to rent a 1BR.

It's so dumb that we give gifts for certain life milestones but not others. I bought a condo as a first-time homeowner and I can't afford a bed frame or chairs OR TO FIX THE HOLE IN THE WALL but folks having babies get 983475 outfits their children will wear once.
