Lol so tired of these people that say "MJ sold 1 million copies first week before streaming." This sounds good if you don't think about what you're saying.

We live in a highly competitive attention market with more artists and more platforms than ever before. Current musicians are competing against the past AND the present. The artists from prior eras would have significantly less of the market share if they were to compete under these conditions.

Back then, if you wanted an album, you had to go buy the disc. Receipts of physical copies were the only way to track the audience.

Now, streaming is the dominant form of consumption. Back then, if someone bought a physical album, there was no way to tell if they actually listened to it or were just participating in a cultural event.

Streaming gives detailed information about who's listening, for how long, if they're skipping, their age, gender etc. On top of all of that, a person has to stream an album 1500 times for it to count as a sale.

ICEMAN has been streamed more than 1 BILLION times and it was released only 3 weeks ago. Drake is about to attain more than 100 million monthly listeners on Spotify alone. That doesn't count the many other platforms on which he has millions of fans.

He's doing this while in active litigation against his label, while being blackballed by radio and while being constantly smeared by media.

MJ is undefeated in certain categories, but Drake is the overall GOAT of music.

So take your 1980s metrics and shove them where the sun doesn't shine😂
