You guys are like Championship Deniers.
Here's an idea. after the playoffs are complete. let's re-rank the teams too determine who the true Champion is. beating an opponent doesn't mean you're better then them (according to MP) losing to a 13-0 team my care more weight then beating an 11-2 team.
Otherwise, we may never know who the true Champion was
well we usually do not have to do this cuz our rankings are so close BUT remember we do not have control over seedings we may have our #1 and #2 teams play in semis so one would be gone-we have always stated that about our rankings-but our accuracy is the best-I am not debating who will win state-I am talking about creating the best system which is fair-just like in 3A we are seeing a shitshow because of many issues mainly the fact that Tier scheduling is a failure-also I am ok with the computer getting teams in especially now with top 24 teams-BUT I have always stated once these rankings are complete they should use humans to make tweeks IF needed-but here is the issue with this hardly anybody watched all of these teams like we do not even close so they do not know the teams anyways and especially in small school FB/sports those yahoos only come out to play when the playoffs are in play and they know nothing about these teams-
1A FB: I believe Williams getting the top ranking after losing to an undefeated Haayden team who also played a strong schedule shows the weakness of the maxpreps rankings and why in the end human touch needs had. What is shows is SOS has far too much of an emphasis and that may be ok but we are suppose to look for the most fair system. I am sure Hayden will tell you it doesnt matter but for a system to be fair it should matter. Williams could win the entire title and it still doesnt take away from head to head and an undefeated season.

thats just a cop out after proving what I have been saying-simple what happened in williams vs Hayden should not happen and it can be avoided by a committee saying sorry we know better-we are changing it-simple as that-but now the aia has went all in on maxpreps no separation at all-
@AZSPORTSNETWORK@DB1096865331002@LSDFootball The humor is lost on you. Point is: none of this matters really.
All the rankings serve is who gets into the playoffs (after region winners if thats the case for that conference) and seeding.
Team getting in by the skin of the teeth (via rankings) get destroyed in rnd 1 or 2.
Here is what AI Found:
Here's what the sources say
MaxPreps national football rankings: Capped; running up the score beyond the cap provides no additional benefit
AIA playoff rankings: AIA's official FAQ says margin of victory is not a factor for most sports, including 11-man football
Idaho's MaxPreps football formula21-point cap
A 2025 Arizona newspaper explanation: Claims a 14-point cap for AIA football
MaxPreps confirms that its national rankings cap margin of victory.
THIS IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN TELLING YOU ABOUT!:
But the AIA's official explanation is particularly important. Its original 2012 FAQ explicitly states that score differential does not enter its playoff-seeding algorithm.
The current AIA FAQ also says margin of victory is excluded for most sports, with specific exceptions for flag football, basketball and soccer. AZPreps365
What happens if a team wins 70–10?
Under the AIA's published 11-man football explanation:
- Winning 70–10 doesn't give a team 60 extra ranking points.
- Winning 28–10 doesn't give it 18 extra ranking points.
- The opponent's strength and the overall results of the teams connected through the schedule are what matter.
There is one discrepancy worth flagging: a 2025 Navajo Times article says AIA football has a 14-point cap, but that conflicts with the AIA's own published FAQ. I would rely on the AIA's official explanation unless it issues a more specific football update.

This is especially interesting considering the Arizona football blowouts you've been researching. Under the AIA's published formula, a coach has no ranking incentive to beat an opponent 80–0 rather than 35–0.
Here is the timeline for the aia and maxpreps-as I stated WAY BACK is WAYBACK-I was here with all of this in real time since I am one of the earliest members in AZ with twitter 2009
Here's the documented timeline from AI:
Before 2009AIA already used a power-points ranking system for football playoff placement.
2010AIA revised its existing formula to give more weight to strength of schedule, including opponents' opponents.
September 2012AIA approved the MaxPreps algorithm to replace its previous power-ranking formula for postseason seeding.
2019AIA introduced a separate ranking process for selecting the eight Open Division football teams.
Here is one article that pops up: https://t.co/zezVsNXXA8
@MikeBasic2@DB1096865331002@LSDFootball what do u mean a key feature in playoffs??? it is simple the computer generates the top teams and BESIDES if a mandatory region team gets in or not it is basic top teams-they changed nothing for hayden beating williams
@AZSPORTSNETWORK@DB1096865331002@LSDFootball You are worried about how the insides of a swiss watch works (i don't know either).... best just to keep an eye on the time.
That whole direct-win-or-loss-over-an-opponent everyone is crying about is a key feature of the playoffs or so I am told.
@MikeBasic2@LSDFootball@studmuffin4cm ok so if they did why are we in a discussion now that some say no limit and others say some-which one do u believe it is
@AZSPORTSNETWORK@LSDFootball@studmuffin4cm When the AIA was incorporating some of the MaxPreps 'data' into their own ranking algorithm years prior to this year, the AIA 'limit' was 'capped at 14'.
99.9% sure the AIA published that
@AZSPORTSNETWORK@LSDFootball Just now you said 'we were told pts don't matter' now you are saying 'the cap was 21'. That would imply points matter.
@studmuffin4cm was going to research that '21 pt' thing.
ok you are confused bro-I am telling you WAYBACK when maxpreps merged with aia and started using them partially people were told that BUT last year when a discussion came up I asked a person involved with aia and I was told 21 was cap-I never had heard that before-so my story is straight up its just on e some things I am saying we were told or made to think differently back in the day and now supposedly 1 of 2 things is happening: 1-there is no limit and it is best to score as many as possible or 2-there is a cap I was told 21 in FB and Hoops-so it is you guys who say no limit or is a limit-I am just showing the hypocrisy of using maxpreps from way back
@MikeBasic2@LSDFootball u koined in 2021 it says ur just a pup here hahaha that was way before ur time here-I will search to see what I have on it-ive never tried the archives thing BUT with AI maybe if I dump documents on it I can not waste my time hahaha
@AZSPORTSNETWORK@LSDFootball I don't remember that at all.
Show me the quote where the AIA or MP stated: "points don't matter" (your words)
I 'member the question coming up, & people looking at the FAQ questions page, and seeing the MP language that pts differential does matter, but there is a cap/ceiling .
BUT IF you use some human factor it would come into play lets just admit wiliams based on common sense should not be the #1 seed-you can say thats the reason but they LOST to an undefeated Hayden team with a tough schedule-thats just common sense and I am not gonna get into the why or why not with maxpreps because its basic head to head-now IF Hayden had lost to another team OK-but they didnt they were undefeated-but to lose to Hayden and u jump up come on now-I love a debate but there is no debating this scenario-The AIA has stated in the past they can change things well this is when human factor comes in and says "hey houston we got a problem" and then whoever is in charge of this says nope sorry it needs changed-you make a grownup deicsion-it just stinks of laziness on their part whoever is in charge-BTW even if williams wins it all it still doesnt change anything
@AZSPORTSNETWORK@LSDFootball "they stated that pts didnt matter"
No one ever said that^. Seems like it was understood points mattered, just there was (per MaxPreps FAQ page) some undisclosed 'cap' to it.
Sure, some will talk themselves into the cap is much higher, for an excuse to run up scores / pad stats
