My Darkhorse when people said was I crazy well now u see what we are saying-thats why we are better than maxpreps-this was also 2-fold as I have told people when Crismon lost their stud WR before the VC game I said that was gonna be a difference and it is now showing to be true as they are 0-2 without him-this Mesa North team also went toe to toe with Show Low

@CoachTonyBorden @AZSPORTSNETWORK @PamKirby We do the same. Grades on Monday. Prsctice at 6pm so they are required to attend tutoring. Teacher must sign off that grade is up. Consistent issues still get benched but we don't really have those

@PamKirby @CoachTonyBorden gotcha-I have just never heard of a team not being able to play because of future bad grades-if thats the case then teams would be cancelling all of the time

SAGUARO HS TACKLE FOOTBALL:

So I just saw the article saying Saguaro will not play this week because of “academic eligibility concerns.”

I'm confused.

The article says DISTRICT OFFICIALS made the decision. Does that mean Saguaro's administration and head coach were involved in the decision—or is the district stepping in and dictating what happens with the football program?

There are a lot of questions that need answers IMO:

1. Are players actually INELIGIBLE?

Is Saguaro saying it doesn't have enough academically eligible players to safely field a team? If that's the case, just say that.

2. Or are the players technically ELIGIBLE, but their grades are a concern?

If they're eligible under the rules but the district doesn't like where their grades are, is the district shutting football down this week so players can focus on academics?

3. Is this a “Coach Carter” situation?

Has the school/program established its own academic standard and decided football doesn't resume until the team reaches it? If so, what is that standard?

4. What changed since LAST WEEK?

Saguaro played last Friday. Were these academic concerns not present then? Did grades change enough in a few days to cancel this week's game?

5. How does the eligibility period work?

Are these academic determinations made week-to-week, at progress-report periods, or by quarter? Were academic problems developing for weeks before reaching this point?

And here's my biggest question:

6. How many football teams across Arizona currently have players with academic concerns but are still playing their games?

There's a huge difference between “we don't have enough eligible players to field a team” and “our players are eligible, but we're canceling because we're concerned about their academics.”

Which one is happening at Saguaro?

Because right now, the words “academic eligibility concerns” raise a lot more questions than they answer.

@AZSPORTSNETWORK @PamKirby It’s enforced. They find out Monday, if they get the grade up by game day they have to take a form to the office with the teachers signature and the updated grade to get cleared. What’s crazy is when we practiced at 5 in the morning, we had zero players ineligible
