Tolleson Board voted on pay increases for returning & new staff members. In 2015 I led the creation of Meet & Confer policy that has ensured the district provides meaningful pay & benefits to all employees. Thank you to all staff for their work, & community for their support
At the Capitol with elected leaders to call on Gov. Ducey & Legislature to hold a special session to address the AEL. Without action, districts will have to cut a combined $1.3 billion that they were already given.
State leaders need to keep their word to the people of AZ

Happening in Tolleson UHSD
- Board voted unanimously on staff wage increases of up to 7%
- Board supported my motion to remove student academic fees for the upcoming school year
- Board hired a number of great educational leaders to serve at our schools and district office
Thanks to the support of the @TollesonUhsd community we're building a PAC that students & alumni can be proud of. Special thanks to @ADMGroup2100@CHASSEteam & Rytan Construction for their partnership in this project.
Mixing rich history with state of the art facilities for kids
This weekend board members, administrators, & other education leaders gathered to share successes of students & schools, & learn best practices in governance.
National events are important to learning & improving as an educational leader for public schools
. @TheSharkDaymond sharing his story of perseverance & innovation. School Board Members & superintendents across the nation can put many pieces from his story into the work we do for public school students.
Thank you to the Republicans & Democrats in the Senate, as well as the House, for voting to override the AEL to support students. We need to work together on a long term solution that is based in the times we currently live with technology & current investments.
What about the students who chose a public, or reputable private university for their investment? @SecCardona & @POTUS need a better plan to deal with $1.6T. As a board member, how do I in good conscious endorse college for kids w/ this debt?

AZ Senate Ed Cmt discussing ESAs. The argument is to provide opportunities to students in need. Problem, their is no equity for students to get what is needed & no accountability mechanisms in place like w/ districts & charters.
@merissacaldwell How can we teach about miscegenation laws, or school segregation laws without discussing how they were race based? How do we talk about internment camps from 1942 as not being race based? Even denying women the right to vote as being gender based? We can't hide from our history
It's Black History Month, & AZ has HB2112 (anti-CRT). The Rep is a former board member who knows CRT has not been taught in schools. Unfortunately this legislation further stokes fears about public schools & will chill factual history being taught to kids. Facts, not fiction
@MasterStackerAF While I can't speak for every school, I can say I've never known a school/admin/teacher/board that doesn't want parents engaged in their child's learning. We know that in order for a child to succeed we need an engaged school & engaged parents
The AZ Senate Ed Comt is currently discussing SB1211. The claim is transparency for parents. The problem is it has always been there, 1211 politicizes schools & further divides communities. Schools want & encourage parent involvement. This will further learning loss
Lets be honest, bills like this are here because politicians have sowed distrust in institutions like schools to help their cause. What's odd, is for years almost no one trusted politicians, all of a sudden it seems now we can only trust some of these same politicians
Tolleson Union HSD approved 5% in raises to employees, as well as continuing to provide employee covered insurance benefits.
I want to thank the amazing people who choose to serve the students of the Tolleson UHSD; parents & community for your continued support of the district.
School Board Members have many critical roles to play in serving their community. Advocacy for federal resources like IDEA, & continuing the school meal programs are just a few of the key items that will help students.
50 million kids are supported by national advocacy
2nd day of Federal insights from @NSBAPublicEd , a national public education advocate that has been student focused for decades is critical. NSBA, made up of & by parents/community members who make local decisions in the best interests of their students is a pillar of our society
This week @NSBAPublicEd brought together leaders across the nation to discuss legislation & legal proceedings facing schools. Today we started w/a student panel who shared what kids are looking for.
This is why we need a strong national advocate for 50 million public school kids
The AZ Senate Ed Com is hearing a bill to significantly erode the ability of parent & community to best serve the public school kids in their districts as board members. SB1011 is retaliation for effective & beneficial policy advocacy for AZ children.
