I had lunch with a liberal woman a few weeks ago. She asked me - with a sneer - what I thought about dismantling the Dept of Education. I said I thought it was a great idea to put the resources back at the state level. Each state has its own demographics - Montana is very different from Florida for example. The students would benefit from customized attention, rather than being lumped into a massive federal bureaucracy. I pointed out that it was that way when she and I grew up, and schools were so much better.
She seemed to wake up and literally said to me, "Gee, I never thought of it that way."
