basic fanfic ettiquette since many ppl seem to struggle with it:
DONT demand for new chapters
DONT give unwanted critique
DONT publicly shit talk fics
DONT improperly tag if youre an author
DO leave positive comments
DO engage w ongoing fics
DO give recs of lesser known fics
AO3 is not social media, it's a library. Fanfic is not content, it's a hobby. Fic writers are not published authors who should stay out of fan spaces. They ARE fans. Fic readers are not clients or customers, they're fellow fans. The sooner people realise all that, the better.
DO NOT STOP TALKING ABOUT EPSTEIN
DO NOT STOP TALKING ABOUT THE FILES
DO NOT STOP TALKING ABOUT THE PEOPLE IN THE FILES
DO NOT STOP TALKING ABOUT THE ISLAND
DO NOT STOP TALKING ABOUT ANYONE INVOLVED
DO NOT STOP TALKING ABOUT EPSTEIN.
DO NOT BE DISTRACTED.
EDUCATE YOURSELF.
So now that we know what it feels like not having Ao3 for 2 days... go to that fic you were ITCHING to read and write a very nice comment.
Cause if we don't treat the fanfic creators nicely, we could lose Ao3 because they simply stop writing.
There's no program to fix that💙
shoutout to the ao3 volunteering team for their work on getting the site back up 🫶🏻 i can't imagine it's easy when there's the pressure of thousands and thousands of people waiting for it to be resolved + making it known on social media, i'd be so stressed in their shoes 😭

ao3 has been under a lot of pressure lately. more users, more traffic, more reports, more confusion. which is great in one way because fandom is alive and people want stories, but it also means we all need to breathe and remember how the site actually works.
this is for everyone. old readers, new readers, writers, lurkers, people who just discovered fanfiction last week, and people who have been here since dial up.
let us talk about how to exist peacefully on ao3.
I feel uncomfortable with how people are speaking about Rafah it makes me uneasy. Rafah isnt “gone” people are still there. The land is still there. The people. Don’t allow this! Don’t normalise this! We have to fight for Rafah, for Gaza! While we still can!
