Running HSR from Phoenix to San Diego all on the US side of the border makes little sense when it could be directed south of California west of Yuma and serve >3 M more people.
@TODNewsHub There are gaps to fill in if we consider the Census' Combined Statistical Areas and other circumstances.
The El Paso-Juarez (>2.5 M) and Albuquerque-Santa Fe (>1 M) regions should see faster, more frequent train service. The I-25 corridor begs for stronger rail connections.
@ThunderWolf08 "Initial operating segments" are lame. Given the likelihood of inflation, I can't justify delaying construction and increasing the likelihood of cost-overruns. It just adds fuel to the NIMBY fire.
Build the entire, envisioned infrastructure all at once, & have peace of mind.
