Really proud to have published the eye care support pathway for children & young people last week.
The new pathway outlines the care & support services families are entitled to throughout their journey, from their first appointment through to living well with vision impairment.
Families often struggle to secure support, and face varying levels of service provision depending on where they are in the country.
The reforms must ensure everyone can access high-quality, tailored support, no matter where they live,
Great to be in Darlington yesterday for the Department for Education's SEND event, & to hear from the Minister on plans for the Schools White Paper.
It's vital that Government makes the most of this opportunity to tackle the challenges facing children with vision impairment.
Joined-up, specialist care & support from an early age, both at home and in school, is absolutely essential to ensuring children & young people with a vision impairment have the best opportunities during their education and in later life - but far too often, this isn't happening.
We'll be reviewing the proposals in detail, and working to ensure these powers are rolled out effectively and consistently.
This is thanks to all the many organisations, volunteers and campaigners over the years who have called for change and helped to make this a reality!
Huge news - the Government has announced new powers for local authorities to tackle pavement parking.
Our research found over 95% of blind and partiality sighted people had been forced into the road by pavement parked cars, putting them at serious risk.

It's important we're keeping our streets clear and accessible for people with vision impairment, wheelchair users, families with buggies, and all other pedestrians - so it's great to see plans to give councils the powers they need to make sure cars stay in the road.
Blocked pavements can make it harder for parents with pushchairs, wheelchair users and blind or partially sighted people to get around.
That’s why we’re giving local authorities stronger powers to tackle pavement parking and keep pavements accessible. https://t.co/PIqkIw1LF2
At @GuideDogs, we welcome the Government's announcement of much needed special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) funding and the focus on tackling the postcode lottery of support.
Children with a vision impairment face a dramatic disparity in support. [1/3]
We recently took to Parliament for the launch of the new eye care support pathway for children and young people.
Developed by over 25 organisations across the sight loss sector, the pathway gives families and professionals a clear guide to the support available.
We’re proud to share we’ve been awarded the @CharityComms Inclusive Comms Award for our work on our Designing for Inclusion Report!🎉
We’re incredibly grateful for this recognition - a massive thank you to CharityComms for championing inclusivity in communications.
Busy few days at #LabourConference speaking with @womensaid, @PancreaticCanUK, @guidedogs, and @WoodlandTrust.
We had important conversations on the issues that matter to people in Birmingham Edgbaston-from protecting women and children, to supporting patients, & accessibility.
The pathway is a result of years of combined efforts from over 25 organisations across the sight loss sector, and something I've been working on since my first day at Guide Dogs.
Our focus now turns towards making sure it actually reaches everyone who needs it!
Really proud to have published the eye care support pathway for children & young people last week.
The new pathway outlines the care & support services families are entitled to throughout their journey, from their first appointment through to living well with vision impairment.
For health, education and social care professionals and commissioners, the pathway provides a comprehensive overview of what good practice care and support should look like from the perspective of those receiving it.
