Today, Gaza held its largest mass funeral ever - over 112 bodies that were only recently recovered after months of being under rubble were laid to rest.

And today, Abdul Rahman El-Syed won a significant victory in Michigan - a victory that has already sent shock waves through the Democratic and Republican parties, and is reshaping conversations at every level of American politics.

These two news items are not unrelated. AIPAC and its allies spent a staggering $65 million on Abdul's opponent, precisely because they wanted to continue using our taxes, our weapons, and our veto power to finance their genocide against Palestinian families. Let that sink in: AIPAC spent $65 million to secure one nomination within the Democratic party for one potential Senate position. And ...they lost.

For countless voters, this campaign became about more than a single candidate. The results today, after the last two years of brutal genocide in Gaza, and after decades of their racist Apartheid rule, put beyond doubt the reality that Isr@ael and its allies have simply lost any and all credibility in the eyes of average, hard-working, tax-paying Americans. Today's outcome reflects a surging demand among many Americans for a foreign policy that is shaped first and foremost by the interests, values, and conscience of the American people. It became a statement that no lobbying effort—foreign or domestic—should outweigh the voice of ordinary citizens, and no aid should ever be given to kill innocent civilians. The support of a candidate by AIPAC is now, finally, deemed by large segments of our country a liability, not an asset.

The dignity, courage, and perseverance of the people of Gaza in the face of occupation, massacres, and war have shaken the foundations of an entrenched establishment whose moral authority has steadily eroded. We look forward to a future defined by justice, not complicity - a future in which our country does not bankroll foreign wars and atrocities, but rather offers better services to its own people.

Someone tagged me to what Dr. Oni said on the Fatwa of Shaykh Qamarudeen Yunus as seen in this video. He already blocked me unprovoked long ago so I don’t get to see his post unless I am tagged to it.

Just like I said last week, Dr Oni is used to stringing words together without saying anything. And he is always on a default mode to attack Sunni scholars. Only the Almighty knows why he does that because it has become unbecoming of him.

But let’s get to the crux of his claims.

First of all, Shaykh Qamarudeen was not making an emotional sweeping claim. If you listen to the Yoruba in the video very well, he made a very precise fiqhi distinction.

He stated that a Muslim bricklayer can build a personal house for a Christian or a Pastor. That is halal business. But you cannot lay the foundation for a church. The reason is that you are now building a structure dedicated to what contradicts Tawhid.

In Dr. Oni’s reply, he cited Surah Al-Hajj verse 40 to claim churches have a legitimate purpose.

However, he completely missed the context. Classical Mufassirun such as Ibn Kathir and Al-Qurtubi gave two clear reasons for this verse.

Number one is that these places were legitimate places of worship in their own time before Prophet Muhammad's message came to finalize things.

Number two is that under an Islamic state, the old existing buildings are protected from unjust destruction under the Dhimmi contract.

Therefore, a state that is protecting an old building is very different from an individual Muslim actively laying the blocks for a new church today. That correlation does not apply.

Then he claimed that a Muslim architect or mason is doing lawful work and not aiding in sin. This is a very weak understanding of the religion. The core of Islam is Monotheism. A church is a venue built for Trinity.

Most classical scholars rule that designing or building such specific venue falls directly under aiding in sin. No doubt about this in sound knowledge.

Let us bring the Mutun (legal textbooks) to the table so we know who is going against knowledge.

In the Hanbali school, if you read Al-Mughni by Ibn Qudamah, he explicitly ruled that hiring a Muslim to build a church is forbidden and the contract is invalid. In the Shafi'i school, if you go to Mughni al-Muhtaj, Al-Shirbini ruled it is forbidden because it is a place built for disbelief.

It is even more interesting because Dr Oni claims to follow the Maliki school. Yet, the Maliki school is very strict on this. If you check Hashiyat al-Dasuqi, they completely block a Muslim from entering a contract to build a church or anything that supports the symbols of other religions.

When I started reading his post, I thought maybe he wanted to echo Imam Abu Haneefah. Because in one specific narration, Imam Abu Haneefah allowed manual labor for a Muslim on a church.

But the truth is, even his own top students, Imam Abu Yusuf and Imam Muhammad al-Shaybani, completely rejected this. You will find their strict disagreement recorded clearly in major Hanafi books such as Al-Mabsut by Imam al-Sarakhsi and Radd al-Muhtar by Ibn Abidin. They sided with the majority that such work is detested and sinful.

To wrap this up, arguing that Muslims worked on churches during the Ottoman or Abbasid empires is a big logical fallacy. History is full of Muslims drinking wine and engaging in interest-based banking during those same empires. Does that make them halal?

The wrongs they committed do not change the Shariah. The legal consensus of the greatest minds in Islamic history is clear. We should respect our scholars and stop revising the deen because we want to look modern.

Israel's genocide in Gaza has killed at least 73,341 Palestinians and injured at least 174,086 people, many with life-altering wounds, since October 2023.

Fourteen Nigerians were kidnapped along the Lagos-Benin Expressway, but what happened afterwards is the part I think deserves serious attention.

At about 9:30pm on July 30, troops of 4 Brigade Nigerian Army were on routine patrol when intelligence reached them about the kidnapping in Ovia North East LGA of Edo State. They didn't wait until morning. They immediately moved after the kidnappers and followed their withdrawal route.

The pressure became too much for the criminals. They abandoned 11 of their victims and escaped into the surrounding forest.

But three people were still missing.

And this is the part I love so much. Our soldiers didn't say, "Well, we have rescued 11 out of 14." They didn't close the operation and celebrate what they had already achieved. The following day, July 31, they went back into that forest and continued searching for the remaining victims.

They combed the area until those remaining three people were found and rescued.

Just imagine what those families must have been going through throughout that night. Eleven families had received the news they desperately wanted, while three others were probably still waiting, praying and wondering where their loved ones were. Then came the news that the remaining three had also been found.

After medical assessment and preliminary debriefing, the Army confirmed that all 14 victims were in stable condition. They were reunited with their families or allowed to continue their respective journeys.

This is why timely intelligence from ordinary Nigerians matters so much. Somebody provided information, troops acted on it immediately, kidnappers were forced to run, and 14 Nigerians who could have remained in captivity are free today.

The criminals themselves are still being hunted, and I hope that part of the operation continues until they are apprehended.

Sometimes we read "14 kidnapped victims rescued" and scroll past it like it's just another headline. But those are 14 human beings. Fourteen families spared days, weeks or possibly months of uncertainty and fear.

Kudos to the troops of 4 Brigade Nigerian Army and Brigadier General Ahmed Balogun. Keep the pressure on these criminals. Every Nigerian rescued from captivity is a victory worth celebrating, and every forest denied to kidnappers makes our roads and communities a little safer. 🇳🇬
