BREAKING: An Iraqi national, 23, has been given a slap on the wrist for 16 child abuse material charges, including on infants and toddlers.

Abdullah Shafiq, a Flinders University student and charity youth group volunteer, pleaded guilty to producing, possessing and spreading child abuse material of infants, toddlers and children under 10.

Judge Telfer found “special circumstance”

The judge noted his youth, no priors and “life stresses”, the “transition from adolescence to adulthood”.

The judge also said his Muslim religious upbringing made him “taboo seeking”.

“Teenage porn” that somehow became just “poor choices”.

Seemingly forgetting that he is 23 years old.

She even said his production charges “involved no real victims” because they were just “filthy online chats”.

The possession and dissemination charges did.

Those were real children being abused.

The sentence? Just 2 years 3 months.

With his non parole already backdated.

Shafiq will be eligible for parole from 30 April 2027.

That is not justice, this is a court making excuses for 16 child abuse offences with therapy speak and then waving him toward the exit.

If this is what “special circumstances” looks like in South Australia, the whole judicial system needs a complete overhaul and a thorough investigation into these outrageous decisions.
