Boom or bust is more like Homer or strike out. Hes shown ability to hit for contact and drive to the gaps vs just fence swinging. Ex: Okamoto same strikeout rate but gets a non homer once every 30 at bats. Bryce is doing it every 10 or so. Different levels obviously but also 9 years of age difference. Bryce is more likely to get two hits in a game than have zero over his last 50 games. That’s not boom or bust. What would you consider the right mlb talent? Who is your #1 even being unrealistic?
The guy who has the best ball speed in pro baseball and just turned 21 last week is working counts and drives the ball to all fields. Boom or bust guys dont go 5/5 and run at 1.100 OPS clips. The bust is exciting because he is still getting his timing back and used to his new post surgery swing. As he learns to be a pro, being friends with Kevin McGonigle doesn’t hurt, his ability to work counts and command the zone will only improve leading to even more opportunity to improve his already A+ production. No one said he’s coming this year or even next. This isn’t a player to trade.
@DetroitTankCity Would this be good enough ? trading Briceño, and another top 15 prospect in the system for a top 5 pitcher in the league on an expiring contract?
@NickMinton10@JeffMossDSR This is why I’m glad we have pros running the team and not twitter. Rainer is special I promise you that. He’s not even close to scratching the surface of his ceiling and he’s dominating high A as a 20-21 year old coming off missing a year of baseball.
It’s very clear that when healthy they are a top 5 team in baseball. There is no guarantee ever. Giving up on a top 5 team is the loser mentality. The farm is strong and deep. The core is young and talented, this isn’t the Angels and Ohtani. You’re also not going to be happy with the haul I guarantee it.
What if we just look at a relevant sample size, say the last 30 games - instead of a selection of games that fits your argument. While ignoring the swath of injuries to key arms and bats along the way. Everyone that was hurt during your “no momentum” stretch is healthy. You’d rather just be miserable for 40 years? Play in game isn’t my measure of success, I think we’ll run for the division but 5 games back isn’t the pull the ejection handle moment you want it to be. This is largely the same team that was the best in baseball for over 100 straight regular season games except now : Greene is way more reliable, Mcgonigle is the key bat we need up to set the table and stress guys out. The farm is loaded, it’s not like we need to rebuild this system.
@ngelfond@JimCosta_ Why does 9 teams matter? They only need to catch 3 in the division OR 6 for wild card. 5 games back for wild card OR 7.5 for division with 72 to play and you’re declaring zero chance. Momentum is powerful in sports and this team is in the positive there.
