Sprinkling Outside Zone Blocking into your 1 on 1 Pass Rush Period will make the Drill like the Game
OL is either Pass Setting or Working to Reach
DL is Rushing or Maintaining Gap Responsibility
One thing I’ve learned:
Most OL issues are not effort problems.
They’re organization problems.
Too many disconnected drills.
Too many random Indy reps.
Too many rules that don’t connect together.
The best OL rooms usually have simple systems and repeated reps.
That's it. Simple.
Jeff Quinn – OL
Outside zone is about covering bodies and obstructing vision.
Lead man.
Trail man.
Get the head across.
Create surface.
Do not come off too soon.
The back is aiming outside leg of the tight end, so the front has to occupy defenders and get vertical.
Nic Cardwell – Co-OC/OL Coach, Cincinnati
Double teams are about vertical movement.
Pop the shoulder.
Play long.
Work up to the linebacker.
Versus the G, the guard cannot be in a hurry and get flat.
Brace step.
Then get vertical.
Stop penetration now, give the center time to get his hat over, and create the play-side space.
