Less TikTok teachers telling us we’re doing our jobs wrong, more TikTok teachers telling us how to do our jobs right. ‘Cause if you don’t have SOLUTIONS, then I don’t have a TikTok’s worth of time for you. 🤷🏻‍♂️

But bear in mind too that our usual response when a student gets something right is “yes,” and “no” when they’re wrong. So I’ve had to teach myself to say “good job” or “try again” as to not confuse. We’re getting a little bit better everyday!

This is my fourth year in SpEd, and the hardest concept I’ve had to teach a student so far? Yes vs. No. When asked a yes/no question, the student would reply “yesorno,” so we tried to get to the root of it, and they just didn’t understand.

Receptively, the student identifies fruits, colors, numbers, letters, animals, etc. So when given a picture of an apple, and the teacher asks, “What is this?” they respond, “Apple!” But when I ask, “Is this an apple?” “Yesorno.” Lots of visuals. Lots of repeating and rewording.

Such a deserving nominee. Kelly was my 8th Grade English teacher, and one of the first that helped me believe in myself. An ability I know she is still instilling in her students 20 years later.

I find myself sitting here still in shock about what @olatheschools did on Thursday night. Just as vaccines are starting to be administered to educators and this long nightmare appears that it may be getting better, the district pulls the rug out from under their teachers.
