Really a great pick

[Jared Isaacman @rookisaacman]

I am honored to receive President Trump’s @realDonaldTrump nomination to serve as the next Administrator of NASA. Having been fortunate to see our amazing planet from space, I am passionate about America leading the most incredible adventure in human history.

On my last mission to space, my crew and I traveled farther from Earth than anyone in over half a century. I can confidently say this second space age has only just begun. Space holds unparalleled potential for breakthroughs in manufacturing, biotechnology, mining, and perhaps even pathways to new sources of energy. There will inevitably be a thriving space economy—one that will create opportunities for countless people to live and work in space. At NASA, we will passionately pursue these possibilities and usher in an era where humanity becomes a true spacefaring civilization.

I was born after the Moon landings; my children were born after the final space shuttle launch. With the support of President Trump, I can promise you this: We will never again lose our ability to journey to the stars and never settle for second place. We will inspire children, yours and mine, to look up and dream of what is possible. Americans will walk on the Moon and Mars and in doing so, we will make life better here on Earth.

It is the honor of a lifetime to serve in this role and to work alongside NASA’s extraordinary team to realize our shared dreams of exploration and discovery.

Grateful to serve,

Jared

Launch a missile, get a pod.

Russia launched an experimental missile apparently related to the RS-26 Rubezh. Jeffrey and Aaron talk about the missile, its heritage, and what this may mean for European stability.

Cool read on F-15E crews intercepting Iranian weapons back in April. Silver Stars & DFCs awarded for heroism, including a Strike Eagle downing a UAV w/guns low altitude at night. Thanks @MergeNewsletter for highlighting these American heroes 🇺🇸

Honored to speak at the Foreign Policy Research Institute and receive the Benjamin Franklin Award. The path to Mars is challenging, but its solutions will drive economic growth, strengthen national security & lead to extraordinary discoveries—all enhancing life on Earth.

Genuinely curious how an incoming Trump admin handles this … this mission with a 350 ship Navy and dubious returns is an interesting challenge

[Jared Szuba @JM_Szuba]

New: The US military successfully thwarted Houthi attacks targeting two US warships with drones, ballistic and cruise missiles on Monday, @PentagonPresSec Maj. Gen. Patrick Ryder tells reporters.

More details to come from US CENTCOM.

[Aaron Stein @aaronstein1]

This was the rationale for the changes to targeting policy Trump oversaw in the ISIS campaign, which Bibi supported, and who spoke with Trump (and talked him out of withdrawal) to prevent an “Iranian land bridge” to Syria.

I’d hedge against any bet for a rapid US withdrawal

Mike Waltz, Trump's pick for national security adviser, in an op-ed for @TheEconomist this month: "The next president should act urgently to bring the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East to a swift conclusion." But this is his formula for doing so: https://t.co/sARV9K4Gk9

I love you, Georgia.

The focus of these updated negotiations is on the number of upgrade kits, not the top line buy of new aircraft

[Aaron Stein @aaronstein1]

What is happening is Turkey wants to restructure the deal, which has added time to reprice the original agreement, along with agreeing to a new overall top line of kit and platform numbers. So things moving, things happening, but changes afoot

[Ragıp Soylu @ragipsoylu]

NEW: Turkey's F-16 Block 70 purchase contract with the US has been in force since the initial payment was made, according to sources from the Turkish Defense Ministry.

[Aaron Stein @aaronstein1]

There are strong indicators that Ankara is restructuring the F-16 deal with the US to save money. I have a vague memory of this being reported in Turkish media a little while back, but cannot find the piece (maybe Im making this up in my head).
