Here’s an idea: teach kids to be literate, not activists.

Teachers deserve fair pay, but more money will not fix our schools until we know how much is actually reaching the classroom instead of top-heavy administration.

[Freedom Foundation @FreedomFdtn]

How much money is actually going to the classroom? How much money goes to top-heavy administrative staff who rarely set foot in a classroom?

Teachers deserve fair pay, recognition, and support for their work. But the problems in our schools won’t be solved by throwing more money at them. We need to ask where that money is going and whether it’s actually helping teachers and students.

New York is keeping AP exam results out of school rankings and calling it “privacy,” so teachers' unions can hide how badly they're failing students.

Unions are supposed to bargain over pay and working conditions, not echo Tehran's talking points while actual Iranian teachers get locked up for demanding fair wages.

🧵Your union already agrees with Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.

The IRGC, a U.S.-designated terrorist organization, just wrote a 25-page letter to American voters weeks before the midterms. It calls the White House a “factory of lies” and claims “Death to America” is really just a prayer against Washington.

Most Americans will ignore it, but teachers' unions are bound to endorse much of it. In July, Randi Weingarten's American Federation of Teachers adopted a resolution demanding “an immediate end to the war with Iran" and called on the U.S. and Israel to halt military operations against them.

At the same convention, delegates passed a resolution blaming Israel for salary problems among teachers in Palestinian Authority territory.

Government unions have used their dues to elect officials who grow the public payroll, and that cycle started when Kennedy made collective bargaining legal in the public sector.

[Freedom Foundation @FreedomFdtn]

Unionization of government workers became legal under President John F. Kennedy, the first president elected with unions’ financial backing and campaign support in exchange for a return on that investment.

That opened a cycle in which government unions collect dues from public employees and use the money to elect radical liberal officials. Those officials then raise taxes on the private sector to grow government, generating still more dues for the unions’ reelection campaigns.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard just wrote a letter to American voters telling them to cut off Israel and close our bases overseas.

Most people will ignore it, but if you’re a teacher paying union dues, parts of it might sound pretty familiar. Randi Weingarten’s AFT passed a resolution demanding an immediate end to the Iran war, and the Chicago Teachers Union sponsored a “Hands Off Iran” protest earlier this year.

Tehran is jailing its own teachers for speaking up, yet union leaders here are echoing its demands instead of focusing on classrooms.

Yale students heard the evidence that these unions help elect the officials they bargain with, spend workers’ money on politics without consent, and correlate with worse outcomes for kids, then voted 35-25 in favor of the ban.

That result shows young people will side with freedom and taxpayers over forced union power when the case is made clearly.

No public employee should feel held hostage by a union they never agreed to join.

[Freedom Foundation @FreedomFdtn]

“I never signed to be in a union in the first place. It’s like I’m being held hostage.”

Shequita Chamberlain, a home healthcare worker in California, has been trying to leave SEIU 2015 since 2021. For a union that claims to listen to its members and champion their needs, that's unacceptable. To this day, the only people who have responded to her are the Freedom Foundation.

Nikole Hannah-Jones now admits she feels her daughter was cheated after sending her to a failing NYC public school that spends over $50,000 per pupil yet fails to check work or teach basic skills.

@DeAngelisCorey is right that teachers unions are the ones blocking charter expansions and school choice to protect their dues and power while families are trapped in these systems.

BREAKING: California’s new test scores are in, and they’re damning. Just 49.3% of students met state English standards this spring, and only 38.4% were proficient in math. That means more than half of California’s 5.4 million students can’t read at grade level.

That’s what you get when teachers’ unions care more about politics and organizing than reading and math. 🧐

[Freedom Foundation @FreedomFdtn]

Union leaders aren't hiding it: they see their members as foot soldiers for the radical left.

SEIU President April Verrett has made clear that she views the union as a political machine, a source of money and manpower to elect Democrats, not a vehicle for representing the workers who pay its dues.

[Freedom Foundation @FreedomFdtn]

Another problem in education we can trace back to teachers' unions. Union activists in schools take kids out of classrooms to go protest cultural battles like "ICE Out" or "No Kings."

To a union, it's more important that your 5 year old knows how to make a No Kings sign, than it is that they know their fractions.

Parents should not have to guess how their kids’ schools are performing.

New York is withholding Advanced Placement exam data that has long been used to measure school quality, and the privacy claim does not hold up. Gov. Hochul is protecting teachers' unions, even when it means hiding which schools are actually working for students.

[Freedom Foundation @FreedomFdtn]

Parents shouldn't have to guess how their kids' schools are performing—that's why Advanced Placement exams and data are so important. But New York is withholding AP data that has been used to evaluate schools under the guise protecting student privacy.

Except this isn’t really about the students, it’s about Gov. Kathy Hochul protecting teachers’ unions’ interests at the cost of important academic standards.

[Freedom Foundation @FreedomFdtn]

This is why government teachers' unions are problematic. They are national organizations that have outside corrupt interests in influencing education standards.

Put students first. Opt out of teachers’ unions.

[Aaron Withe @AaronWithe]

Parents have a right to know how their children are performing in school. When a governor and the teachers' unions make literacy data and exam statistics hard to access, you know they're protecting a system that puts union power ahead of kids who still cannot read.

[Freedom Foundation @FreedomFdtn]

When a state Governor and the teachers’ unions make it hard to access student literacy data and exam statistics—you need to start asking why.

Parents deserve to know how public schools—and their children—are performing. CEO @AaronWithe highlights what this issue is really about in a recent op-ed for @dcexaminer.

Capitalism rewards hard work and results. Union contracts reward seniority.

Great teachers should be able to earn six figures. Instead, a dedicated young teacher can make less than half of a 20-year veteran who shows movies all day. And the bad teacher is nearly impossible to fire.

Collective bargaining locks everyone's income in place based on seniority, not performance. Top teachers can’t earn more, and underperformers stay protected.

[Aaron Withe @AaronWithe]

The case against government unions is simple, and the Yale students got it.

A government union’s revenue comes from dues and dues come from taxes, so the bigger the public payroll, the more money and political power the union commands. Meanwhile, taxpayers are stuck footing the bill.

When both sides are heard, the majority sides with workers, kids, and the people who pay the bills. That is reason for hope.

[Freedom Foundation @FreedomFdtn]

"The case against government unions is simple. A government union’s revenue comes from dues, and dues come from headcount. The bigger the public payroll, the more money and political power the union commands.”

Freedom Foundation CEO @AaronWithe has a new op-ed in the @realDailyWire, detailing his experience being invited out to the @OfficialYPU to debate—and what this means for the future of fighting government unions.

[Aaron Withe @AaronWithe]

Nikole Hannah-Jones put her daughter in a high-poverty Brooklyn public school to make a point. Her daughter now says she never got the education she wanted. Randi Weingarten’s response? She wants to “learn” what went wrong.

Joel Klein is right that Randi should look in the mirror. The AFT has fought for near-automatic tenure and against real performance accountability, and it has pushed to cap the charter schools that actually serve low-income kids.

Government unions put power and dues ahead of the kids they claim to serve.
