Billy Cox lost his car at 20 and built a $2 billion sales career on one daily discipline — but the real story emerges when he reveals open heart surgery ten months ago changed everything about how he teaches success.
In this episode, we sit down with Billy Cox to explore what separates people who talk about success from people who live it. Billy walks through the exact decision-making framework that took him from $100 a month to leading teams across billions in sales, the agricultural metaphor that explains why "green means grow," and the moment gratitude stopped being a concept and became survival.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
• Success is a decision you can make today — not a secret formula you're waiting to discover
• The three competitive skills every FFA graduate needs: knowing your numbers, understanding agricultural cycles, and building genuine relationships
• Action comes before clarity — "God hits moving targets" — waiting for perfect conditions means never starting
• Duty isn't burden — it's the thing that keeps you alive when everything else fails
• Daily deposits into unseen accounts (discipline, gratitude, integrity) compound into the life you actually want to live

Ok … just watched one of the best documentaries … highly recommend.
Enjoyed watching him in the 80s on SNL, in movies, and 2022 live with Steve Martin in Grand Prairie.
When reflecting on his life he said:
“I was the best version of myself on the last day of my life.” - Martin Short
Want to watch a documentary of a life / career / family chalked full of gratitude and happiness … watch this show … so good.

Had a new experience this morning. “Thank You” Chip Baker for including me and Coach Barnes on the radio talk show 1 on 1 with DP (93.7 The Ticket in Lincoln, Nebraska) to discuss The Path for Coaches Vol 4 - Communication which hits bookshelves next week.
I’ve enjoyed getting to know Chip and having him share with our students and teachers. I remember when Sports Illustrated did a six page story on the Texas Tech Meats Judging Team. While a little different, it was another chance to bring agriculture and the FFA into the mainstream because our agricultural science teachers and FFA student leaders are coaches too … pouring into the success of our members.
Honored to contribute a chapter to this book … AND … my son William also joined in and wrote a chapter from his perspective as a new competitive soccer coach.
More news on the book coming soon. Be sure to pick up an autographed copy from William and I.
I put the link to the full interview in the comments.
As Coach Chip says … Go Get It! Gain some skills, insights, and competitive edge from proven successful coaches.

When real American warriors come to town … hang out … reconnect and pay respect to an incredible tribe. “Thank You,” Tuhon Tom, Tuhon Harley, Bill, and Patrick for allowing William and I a chance to stop by pay respect. LEAD On!
Liam and the FC Steele boys played a great game against the Ballhaugs today. They came up a point or two short, but we had some young sideline refs enjoying the game and missed three critical offside calls … but play goes on … one was a good shot – you’ll see it in the video. Good job, Liam.
AND … we got to sport some of our new American Sniper swag. Wiley X American Sniper shades and the Black Flag American Sniper cap. Never too early to start honoring a and paying respect to our military.

Happy Anniversary, Sweetie. More than two decades in love, 19-yrs married … strong as bronze and shiny as brass. Here’s to the next 21 … CHEERS … I Love You.
The day started out foggy and then turned beautiful ... before we got some much needed rain in North Texas. Family and friends were able to gather and cheer on our favorite goalie ... who also got some playing time as a striker. Good win for FC Steele ... good job, Liam.
We created this program 16-yrs ago this year to provide Texas FFA members who are aspiring leaders to have yet another ... next level ... leadership development opportunity.
So many incredible Texas FFA members started as Jr. Ambassadors ... moved to Sr. Ambassadors ... went on to team leaders ... then to Summer Leadership Team (SLT) positions each year growing their professional networks and leadership skills while developing an incredible professional network.
Applications are open through midnight tomorrow night ... April 15. If you are a student looking to grow personally and professionally ... we challenge you to apply.
The Ambassador program provides a unique insight and behind the scenes look at State Convention. It also allows you to build relationships, network, and serve as “face to face” hosts for Sponsors and special guest.
You don’t want to miss out on this unforgettable experience! Apply online today at https://t.co/SyxCWoVICm
Applications due April 15, 2026. For more information please email [email protected]
Playing catch up on some of Liam's soccer games (vs Wolfpack, Goal Digger, and Cyclones). Always great being out with family and friends cheering for our favorite goalie (and he got some playing time against the Goal Diggers too). Even had a new photographer join me as Hattie got a little time behind the lens ... she did great ... fun.
Keep up the good work Liam ... proud of you.
Such a proud moment for America! Watching the Artemis II launch on April 1 to the splash down today (April 10) … America once again demonstrated her leadership.
I’m hopeful all Americans can take in this moment … pride for the innovation, bravery, risk, empathy, technology, dreams, leadership, and ambition of the American spirit.
God Bless America.
It happened today. I
9:00 am
In the morning until 3:00 pm
Darkness from 12:00 - 3:00 pm
According to the Gospels (Matthew 27:45, Mark 15:33, Luke 23:44), darkness covered the land for three hours while Jesus was on the cross. This darkness occurred from the sixth hour to the ninth hour, which corresponds to noon (12:00 p.m.) to 3:00 p.m. in modern timekeeping, immediately preceding his death.
Duration: Approximately 3 hours.
Timeframe: Noon (12:00 P.M.) – 3:00 P.M..
Context: The darkness began three hours into his crucifixion, which started around 9:00 a.m. (the third hour).
Mark 27:46
About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?”(which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”)
NOTE: If you have children, you can translate this moment on the cross and Jesus’ pain as He cried “daddy! daddy! help me!” That is an incredible pain a parent can hear … wow … God had a purpose as He reconciled our lives for eternity.
Luke 23:34
“Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”
John 3:16
For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Jesus faced a brutal death. It is well documented the torment He experienced … and … He didn’t have to. He could have called 10,000 angels to destroy the world and set himself free. But He didn’t … He endured all that because He knew me, you, and all our family and friends. He wanted to give us an option … not that we have to take it … but, an option to believe His story, who He is, and the hope He provides.
The resurrection gives us hope. Our world – even with all its incredible natural wonders, technology, and science - is broken. Our world is filled with imperfect and flawed individuals even though many try their best to be decent. All of us will at some point in our lives know the pain of grieving for a loved one. For Christians, Paul told us not to “grieve as others do who have no hope” (1 Thess 4:13). Paul knew we would be sad and experience sadness, but because of Jesus’ resurrection, we have HOPE.
