Make sure your grades are good, your MCAT score is good, your EC's and experiences have actually solidified your desire to become a Dr. I see way too many students rushing and hating the process. This is a LIFELONG career. CHILL.

A lot of medical trainees, myself included, decided not to apply for residency in states we couldn't provide Healthcare for women. Beyond the fact that we could watch someone die due to a law, or even could end up in jail for doing so.

If a student has a low GPA, show them what they need to improve that whether a post bacc or other way.
If low MCAT or starting their studies guide them to appropriate resources.
If not enough EC's help them find more shadowing and volunteering opportunities.
Gap years are NOT bad

A premed advisor should not be allowed to advise if they didn't go to medical school. I hear the most awful reasons why students "can't go" to medical school. Their role is to HELP GUIDE, not to deter students.

@VickiO_theDO Matched FM. I was part of a rural urban underserved program (RUUP) that included a statement in the MSPE. I would say it helped me a TON. The general MSPE wasn't ever even mentioned.

Same thing in Alabama over 10 years ago and they reversed the legislation within a YEAR! Massive revenue loss for the state of Florida and that doesn't take into account all the taxes undocumented immigrants pay. ($458 BILLION in 2018). Produce prices will be 📈 "bUt iNfLaTiOn"

@Jorge_md12 Reach out to your schools finaid office. They would let us know of any scholarships/opportunities. If there is a field of Medicine you know you want to pursue go to their organization sites and look for some there. Always the @NHSCorps if thinking primary care is a great option.

I think premeds focus so much on GPA and MCAT when it comes to medical school admissions. If I go by last years data, focusing solely on MCAT and GPA I would have a 21.2% chance of being accepted. These are important to make sure you can handle medschool coursework but,

Remember that your EC's like research, leadership, volunteer, shadowing, work experience, communication during the interview, mission, understanding what it means to be a physician, and many variables go into being accepted into medical school! Don't just ✅️ boxes.
