Fugitive wanted for IFP Deputy Chief Whipโs murder shot dead after pointing fake gun at police in Duduza
A man wanted for the alleged murder of Inkatha Freedom Party Deputy Chief Whip Khethamabala Sithole was fatally wounded during a police operation in Duduza, Ekurhuleni, on Thursday morning. The suspect, identified as Zamani Ngila Ximba, had been on the run since the May shooting in Katlehong.
Police traced Ximba to a hiding place in Duduza. As officers entered, he pointed what appeared to be a firearm at them, prompting police to open fire. After the shooting, investigators discovered the weapon was a replica firearm, not a real gun.
The fatal shooting followed months of investigation into the May 31 incident, when Sithole and two others were shot at a hostel in Katlehong. The Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Unit, assisted by Crime Intelligence, had been searching for three suspects linked to the attack.
Two suspects, Bhekukuhle Sithole, 36, and Mkhululi Sithole, 33, were arrested soon after the murder and remain in custody. Their next court appearance is scheduled for November 20, 2025. The Independent Police Investigative Directorate has been notified of Ximbaโs death.
