The Godfather

Unknown facts anout The Godfather movie:

The opening wedding scene took four days to film.
Coppola wanted to capture the feeling of an authentic Italian-American family gathering, so much of the footage was improvised and unscript.

Coppola’s family appears in the movie.
His sister, Talia Shire, plays Connie Corleone; his daughter Sofia Coppola appears as Michael’s baby; and his father, Carmine Coppola, helped compose the film’s score.

No one says “Mafia” in the film.
The Italian-American Civil Rights League protested the movie, claiming it would defame Italian-Americans. As a result, Coppola agreed to remove the word “Mafia” entirely from the script.

Oranges = death.
Coppola used oranges as a subtle foreshadowing of danger or death — for example, Don Corleone buys oranges right before he’s shot, and Vito dies with an orange in his mouth.

Real mobsters loved it.
Many real-life mob figures adored the film. Some even started mimicking lines and gestures from it — like kissing the ring of their “Don.”
