I want to know their names, who and what they loved, the people they had waiting for them at home, everything they hoped for. I want to know the fabric of their days and the contexts of their lives.
Paraphrasing Dr. Dzirasa’s advise to a URM trainee: "Who you are is your strength. Everything you are (genes and experiences) shapes you. You cannot dissociate your basic science pursuits from your identity." #ISF2021 keynote
Every Black woman I know is hurting right now.
#BreonnaTaylor is us.
We are tired.
We are scared.
We are angry.
We want to live without fear of being killed for simply existing.
Sending love to every Black student and professional who has to go to class/lab/work today and play pretend because they don’t know whether their institution/professor/PI/employer actually values Black life. And no... I’m not talking about issuing a tacky solidarity statement.
We are so excited to amplify all of @BlackInNeuro this week, especially the amazing scientists showcased from #computational fields.
Shoutout to all of the organizers of #BlackInNeuroWeek which is already off to a tremendous start! 🙌🏾🧠
regular reminder that the idea of “black on black crime” as a unique form of violence is an attempt to pathologize the general fact that violent crime happens between people in close proximity to each other, which in a segregated society means most violent crime is intra-racial.
Academic institutions should begin publishing data on Black faculty recruitment, retention, promotion/tenure, and salary levels compared to their White peers. We’re done with #BLM statements and hashtags. We want metrics & accountability.

Being #BlackintheIvory is thinking that being the "first black person to ____" is a compliment.
It's not.
It's an example of the systemic exclusion alive and well TODAY. 300 years and no black graduates? You can't possibly think that's bc none were smart enough to go can you?
Dogs love humans unconditionally.
It’s impawtant to let humans love each other the same way.
Love will always win.
Always.

black ppl are now programmed to believe that any encounter w the police could result in death for them. that will trigger anybody’s fight or flight reflex. if you don’t have this same psychological association, or basic empathy, YOU WON’T UNDERSTAND why ppl may resist/fight/flee!
